1,000 rpm PTO shaft vibration

Got a vibration when turning short. Only "slop" I can find is betweet the two telescoping square shafts.

Also notice that someone has welded the back female shaft to the yoke. Howevr, going straight ahead is it smooth as a baby's butt.

Could those loose fitting shafts be causing this turning vibration?

Allan,
The slop in the shafts is your friend when going straight. I think you may find the yoke may have been welded on slightly off in alignment with each other so when everything is loaded up the yokes are not flexing at the same time.
Good luck and follow up on what you find
Andy

Well, now that sure could be. Never even thought of that scenario. :>)

I'll check to see.

Thanks Pard!

Wear in the square telescoping parts can cause the joints to get out of phase during a turn(sharper turns are worse). Is this u-joint a regular u-joint or a CV type joint? If a CV it's probably the ball/socket worn out.

And be forewarned,

I'm not buying a $500 shaft neither. I'll just have to find some real long straight windrows.

LOL!

Just regular joints. Gets worse as the turn gets sharper.

Think you guys are right on track 'bout that phasing thing.

I presume you have your tractor drawbar set 16" from the end of pto shaft to the center of the hole in the drawbar.

CHECK THAT THE SLIP SHAFT IS GETTING LUBED GOOD ALSO THAT CAN PUT STRAIN ON THE U-JOINTS AND CAUSE A VIBRATION.
