What is your understanding of rules. Will be hauling show string of Dairy cattle from Oklahoma to Wisconsin for a show Going thru Kansas, Nebraska,Missouri, Iowa & Wisconsin. Dodge 3500 with 30 foot Aluminum trailer.Cattle may make 6000 to 8000 lbs. Own cattle will be up & back. Done it several times in past years but it sounds like thinks have changed.

If you are under 26,000 and NOT declaring prize money as income or deducting the trip as a business expense Cattle shows are pretty much exempt from the rules just like Tractor shows. But if you have a dually pickup and 3 axle trailer you are over the magic number. It does not matter what you load weighs. It's your POTENTIAL load they look at. Borrow a smaller rig.

you won't have to worry about scales in Iowa. The northbound scales on I-35 are out of the ground north of Des Moines. Not sure about the one south of Osceola. There is a Super-coop west of Des moines on I-80 though. Easy enough to get around though. If you're going east of Des Moines, There aren't any scales to the Ill. border.
