Agritourism Farms good way for farmers to make extra dough

howdie. I came across this Agritourism article. Seems that more farms are getting into Agritourism, where they charge for visitors to make a trip out of going to the farm and picking their own crops. Seems like a fun way to mix up the traditional farm and earn some extra money too.

Depands on where you are at and what you let em do. I still have trouble believing that someone will hack up thier family, pay to stay at a farm and help with field work and chores! WHAT A RACKET!!!!!

There seems to be some perception that it means people are going to pay money to help bale hay and clean out the barn.

Look at dude ranches, which have been around forever, and what they offer. They provide an experience and a vacation. People aren't paying to do the chores. We went to one a few years back. Private cabins with housekeeping staff. The chef was from a four-star restaurant. You could chose to go ride with the hands working cattle. Or use the hunting and fishing guides. Any "work" was something you wanted to try.

This is like that "Make $125 a day with old pallets" article I found on the company printer the other day.

Sure, this business model works for a FEW people under the right conditions, but to claim that it's the great white savior of the family farm, or that it will work for *everyone* is ridiculous. Worse, is if you are foolish enough to believe it.

The real money is being made by the "consultant" who you pay to tell you how to set this all up. "If you build it, they will come," and off he goes with your money.
