don't know what the intake is off of maybe a 302 ford, But the trans is a Munich 4 speed "not spelled right" looks to be out of a GM. worth a lot more than scrap if good, I'm talking 500.00 or so here, even if it has bad gears the case is worth enough to make you smile, check them out on ebay.

Not sure on the tranny.

The intake manifold?

The number and location of mounting bolts, the front oil fill, the rear port for the road draft tube, {crankcase ventilation} and of course, the twin four barrel platform all point to one thing.

A real deal 425hp 409 Chevrolet - just like the one in the Beach Boys' song. This is probably valuable.

GM 2x4 intake,409-425 hp.Not aftermarket, real GM,identified by the "Snowflake" casting mark, made by Winters foundry for GM.Worth a couple of bucks!

Muncie 4-speeds are worth $500?

Once again, I'm crying about something I had literally dozens of, tossed in the junk when junk was JUNK. At one point a few years back, I had about 10 M22's and even more M21's sitting in the shed. Who would have ever thought those very breakable trannies would be worth anything.

We used to take 'em out of our Chevies and put in a Borg Warner Super T10 or a Ford top loader because the cluster gear and/or syncros in a Muncie wouldn't stand up to much abuse.

Definitely a HP 409 manifold.

Note the open bolt bosses above each pair of intake ports.

The transmission appears to be a Muncie.

I would agree that it's a 409... at least it looks like others for a 409 when you google it.

It is definitely not a Ford Windsor. Distributor is at the rear and the mere fact that it's a dual quad would suggest it's not apt to be found atop a Windsor...

She's real fine.

Though I never owned one, I've worked on a few and have always had a fondness for the W block.

A close friend of mine had a dual quad 409 in a 57 Bel Aire. It had so much cam and compression that the windows would rattle in the car beside it at the drive in.

Forgot about that--Ford did move their distributor to the front. The thermostat is on the fron of that one.
One thing it's not for a wide vee like small block chevy. The 366 that I have doesn't have that narrow an intake manifold. 366 is a big block in the 409 family.

It is a 63 425 horse 409 in good shape just dirty. The tranny is a muncie no broken gears. The engagement teeth on third gear are a little scuffed. If I were to keep it I would leave it in but if I rebuild it to sell I would change it and the slider. Hope you enjoyed it. Some of You fellers know some stuff.

There was a much heavyer/ stronger cluster gear available for that trans.
