Got a wasp sting today

So ya maybe I should go to the E,R, since I am allergic to stings but I took a Benadril (sp) which I keep on hand. But my arm is still itching like crazy so how do I stop that short of going to the E.R. Yes later I will take a couple more of the allergy pills

I would be cautious you do not go into shock if you are that allergic. Cortisone should help for the skin issues, but will not handle any internal issues.

Take yourself a good dose of those little pink pills and I'm betting it'll all be better in a couple days.

I was told to do this years ago for bee stings and I think it might work on wasp stings, too. As soon as you can after you get stung slice an onion and put some of the juice on the sting. It takes to "heat" right out. Mike

I have been dealing with the problem for 30 plus years so yes I know what to watch for and all it is just this time the itch is about to drive me nuts. I can say the wasp that got me will never get any thing again. Seems carb cleaner and wasps do not mix well wasp lost. Arm is still a bit swelled up. If I get real bad the first thing is the itch then hives and only had the hives 2 or 3 times so far and that was 10 times to many

ammonia,or pee on the sting,or Adolph's meat tenderizer mixed with water to form a paste...all three work good on various stings...they wont do anything for an allergic reaction tho.

Old I use a baking soda paste to help with the sting, or meat tenderizer also helps draw out the venom.

next time you see your Dr. ask him if you need epinephrine anaphylaxis kit. the benadryl helps, also claritin or allegra as they are also antihistamines. if you start having shortness of breath or your tongue swells---ER..no argue!!!as Dell would say.

Got stung by a wasp in my grandpa's barn as a kid. Grandma brings me an onion-that did work really well! Cut it and apply the juice to the sting-as suggested.

You should be able to take at least 2 or 3 benadryls at a time, just don't take that many for a really long time. Tobacco spit works really well, so if you chew, or know someone who does, you can borrow some.

pee better if it comes from someone else works just like for stings from jelly fish yours might not work. find a love one Good luck

How sick is the wasp? Just kidding! I swell up and ich from most all bug bites, and we have a lot of mosquitoes and deer flies, I get some anti-ich cream at wally world.

Please if you are allergic don't take any chances. Get to the er. Pa got stung years ago and did not know he was allergic. Was walking back to shop to get gasoline to kill wasps that stung him and collapsed right in middle of yard. Mother called ambulance and they hauled him into er. Er said he was to far gone so called priest and gave him last rites. But before he died he started coming around. 24 hours later he was back home and going to the shed to complete task of killing wasps. I told him you are out of your mind. I'll take care of it. Which I did. He learned that day to stay away from wasps. Dr. gave him a kit should he ever get stung again. I don't know what it was but he never needed to use it anyway. Don't take this lightly. Er is a small price to pay for you're LIFE.

Old - this is a very appropriate subject for me today! I too got stung by a wasp. Have never had a reaction to any type of sting, but this year has been different. Today, we were taking a radiator out of a 77 and a wasp dropped down out of the nose on my hand, stung through knit gloves, my hand is swollen and sore! Last week, I walked passed the 770 in shed and three got me on the forearm! Arm swelled badly from elbow to wrist. I did consider trip to er but in the end did not go. I don't have any benadril, but will get some tomorrow - I think I need to have some on hand too. All the responses to your post are appreciated, will definitely try something to relieve the symptoms.

e would have to find someone for a 'donor pee'....he's too Old to have a stream powerful enough to reach his arm. he he he

Have you tried Zyrtec (Cetirizine HCL 10mg)? My allergist suggested I take one before getting a allergy shot to reduce the swelling and itching at the injection site. It works well for close to two days of relief per tablet. It doesn't make me too drowsy, but the label says to avoid alcohol and seditives. Fairly cheap at $1 or less per tablet.

Maybe call your doctor's office to see what they recommend?

Good Luck, those stings hurt for a three or four days without allegies.

Just so long as you dont get confuzzled and pee on the wasp nest ...
Worked for a guy who did that once, girlfriend had to drive him to the hospital with a towel around his waist (his pants wouldnt fit) was there two days..

Way back when I got to the point I could not work with Bees any more due to getting stung over 150 time and that is now why I am allergic to them I was rushed to the E.R. and they gave be a benadril shot and then told my parents to keep it on hand just for that so now days I keep it in the house just in case

Don't know if it will work now--and I have never tried it---But a Doctor friend of mine said to tape a penny over the sting immediatly. I have no idea what it does but he assured me it would help.
I will certinally try this for my next sting.

Too late now I think, just have to deal with it. few slugs of your favorite toothache medicine and a nice nap maybe....

If you are allergic (or anyone that lives far from the hospital), it's a good idea to have a doc set you up with a bee sting kit. Like FB said, it could be a here today, gone tomorrow thing. Almost lost dad when he bit into a sandwich that had a yellowjacket on it and got stung. Couldn't begin to count how many times he'd been stung when mowing and working on old houses, etc...But that was the day and there wasn't time for coulda, shoulda, woulda........We were working across the street from a doctors office at the time and ran & got him to help til the ambulance got there.

Don't know, but imagine it's the same principal... Lay a penny on top of your car, tractor, or whatever battery after the posts/terminals are clean and check it again in a week or so. The penny will draw the corrosion and leave the terminals clean.

Always have Benadril and Zyrtecc on hand.

ER doc told me they could be taken at the same time, as they work in different ways.

I really hate to see these stories, really feel sorry for those who are allergic. My Son is Very allergic and keeps the Pen around and up to date allways, He swells up like a balloon within minutes and MUST go to the emergency room FAST.

I on the other hand am NOT the least bit allergic to stings. Don't understand why, but I've NEVER had a reaction to bee or wasp stings.
Just today We were looking at a boat He's thinking of buying, opened a panel and out came a dozen or so wasps, He ran FAST, I got stung on the arm once.
I felt it when it happened, hurts like it should but only for a minute, hours later, still can't see where He got me, nothing there. The Wife claims She can see a small red spot.
I really don't understand it... skeeters leave a normal welt that itches just like anybody else..
Sorry Guys..

I was not bothered with bee or wasp stings either until ten years ago. We where cleaning out an old shed after my Grand Father died. He was a pack rat. I got stung three or four times that one day by wasps. The last time I got a little sick at my stomach. Did not think anything about it.

A few weeks later I got stung by one of the little black Bumble bees, the mean little suckers. I got stung on the right side of my face. Within just a few minutes my right eye had swelled shut. The whole side of my head swelled too. I rushed to the hospital. They gave me several shots and the swelling took a few days to go down.

Since then I swell up real bad with bees or wasps. Doctor says that you can loose your resistance to them. I did after I was 50 years old.

Bee Sting Kits have a definate life span and
expireation date. I get a fresh one every spring.
I get mine from the VA,for a $9 co-pay.

Wet some tobacco and put on it.

When I use to dip copenhagen I'd pull the dip out and put it on the sting and it would take the sting and pain away in a matter of seconds.

Tobacco = vaso constrictor.

lot of people recommending urine.. I reckon you'd rather take a trip to the ER than get peed on. here is some useful info i found on Google

Allergy to bee stings can happen suddenly. You can go for years with out a problem. The next sting can drop you.I know many people who have sting allergys. My aunt,a niece and a good friend were allergic.A fellow died when he got stung drinking from a can of soda.Bees are attracted to beer.My wife and son are allergic to shell fish.My friend Whitey was one of 7 children and the only one allergic to Bee stings.I drink from a glass at the picnic table,No cans or bottles.

old,
Hope you're improving. Wife is allergic as well and when we're together and come across a nest or swarm, she'll move away REAL fast. I can stand around and wave them off.

Been working on a barn addition which means ripping off metal siding tearing off eaves, etc. and uncovering fair number of nests. They don't seem to like people whacking near their homes with hammers and crowbars for some reason. Usually they'll just buzz around my head. Had a couple actually fly into my head and bounce off rather than land and sting. I suspect I exude some kind of "old curmudgeon" odor that wards them off. I have found that if you kill one by smashing it, the others seem to get fired up. I heard once that they react to the chemicals a smashed one gives off. Don't know if that's true or not, but I try and leave them alone or use a can of spray on the nests or get them in mid-air.

I've been working on a canopy for my FORD 3600 and was test fitting the brackets on the ROPS the other day. Put the bolts in one ROPS upright and found out that I'd plugged the access holes for a nest judging by the couple of wasps that came back and were mighty upset that they couldn't get inside the post. Evidently the 1/2" holes were mighty fine doorways to a very protected nest site. Anything I build nowadays for my equipment has any tube ends or nooks/crannies covered by a welded piece of sheet stock just to eliminate potential nesting areas. Nests out in the open are easy to deal with but the hidden ones are what I fear, for my wife's sake.

I do sympathize with those who are allergic and am surprised to find that you can become allergic later in life. It will make me more wary from now on.
