I just saw a TV news story saying Canterbury Downs Race Track is closed because of the state Gov shut down. I thought Canterbury is privately owned. Or maybe it is and there is some other "state" regulation that caused its shut down. Doesn't seem to make any sense to me!!!

I know in Missouri there has to be a Highway Patrol on duty for the gambling boats to be open, I am sure it is the same with race tracks.

and it will continue to go in that direction, with that gov that bought his seat like he did with his Sen. seat.. and that moron Franken > Lord have mercy!

Don"t know what the connection is, but any talk of a racino being established there does require State approval. Probably cuz it would non-tribal owned? Re the shutdown, the Gov thinks he got a mandate from the voters in a 3-way race! Mandate in the Legislature was from 2-way races. Gov Goofy hasn"t done the math.....30 some does not equal 50 some.

The gambling is state regulated. Since the state gambling inspectors were all laid off there is no one to do the inspecting so there can be no gambling.

Governor Dayton ran on a pledge to raise taxes on the highest earners and really doesn't care too much about the rest of the budget. He hasn't even said what he has to have extra money for, he just wants the tax increase and was willing to shut down the government to try to get it.

The TV said that even though the track is privately owned, the racing commission, which regulates it, are state employees. They took it to court, and the judge said they had to close. I think they are appealing the decision.

Our governor is bound and determined that he is going to raise taxes, and apparently he won't have it any other way!

(quoted from post at 15:24:40 07/04/11) Nothing in this state makes any sense any more. I am sure it must have some thing to do with tax collections.

I find it kinda interesting that they shut down sources of revenue that most affect and or make people mad. You can renew yer plates and license but can't buy a lotto ticket....which pulls in the most money but only requires a few workers? The Lotto cause they are sold in stores.....can't buy a fishing license, again sold in stores and would only require a few people to maintain a server.......can't pull into the wayside rest.......I think our sorry excuse for politicians made sure that they were going to cause the greatest disruption to the voters as possible.

Long term this is going to hurt....talked to a guy in a C store on Friday. He and his family have been coming to our area of MN for years. They get here on the 1st or 2nd of July and stay a week. Buy 7 day out of state family fishing liences.....syas what a wasted trip for em this year. He says they will never come back to Mn.
