weak hydraulics

I have a ford 9n that i just rebuilt the lift cylinder on. I noticed the i had fluid leaking out of the cylinder so i put a lift piston out of a jubilee in there and put everything back together the lift worked holding a 6ft finish mower up for an hour until i changed the hydraulic fluid, now the lift is weak. I took the side plate off to check for a leak and do not see any fluid pouring out of the cylinder or anywhere else any suggestions? I used tractor supply universal hydrolic/tranny fluid traveler brand if that makes any difference not sure thanks for any tips!

Is the relief valve leaking?

It is not uncommon for the lift on an N series Ford to leak down faster with UTF oil in the sump than GL-1 when the oil is not fully up to temperature and the system has minor leakage(s).

How do you check to see if its the relief valve? Is that the one at the bottom of the pump that the linkage connects to? Thanks for the info I haven"t ever really worked on tractors before this is my first one and would be a good one if I could fix this.

Hey Dean i replaced the fluid today with gl-1 from napa and it works a lot better but will still leak down in about 15-20 min after i cut the tractor off. Though it still works pretty good while in opperation, I still would like it to be right. Still see no leaks from above but havent tried that hydraulic valve yet.
