I bought two new 1979 Trans Ams in late 1978-early 1979. Both had the TA 6.6 Pontiac engine with four speed transmissions and WS6 performance/handling packages with rear disc brakes. One was black/gold and the other was a silver 10 year anniversary model with leather (not vinyl) interior.

They are kind of low tech today but were the best performing American made car in 1979.

The TA 6.6 cars were rather rare as Pontiac stopped making the 400 CI V8 engine in 1978 but inentoried several thousand for use in the 1979 models. In 1979 the TA 6.6 was available only with the four speed manual transmission which limited sales. The regular 6.6 (Oldsmodile 403) engined cars are worth considerably less.

I had one exactly like the car in the auction. I sold it in 1981 with less than 1000 miles on it for $9500, which was a bit more than I had paid for it with my GM exec discount but, of course, I should have kept it.

Pretty amazing...What a collectors piece.
I have a friend that was given a 1974 T/A 455 SD as a graduation gift. It has only been driven on his birthday each year since he got it. Last time I saw it a couple years ago it had less than 5000 miles on it!It takes will power, deep pockets and lots of other toys to hold on to somethoing like them!

Makes you think about how far down the road she shows up at Barrett-Jacksons show. In a bigger arena with a captive and specialized audience that TAs value could go through the roof.

I understand the appeal of having or keeping an original muscle car having low miles but 7 miles for a 79 is crazy. My 00 Trans Am ws6 has 23000 and that"s about the lowest I would want to go. You know it"s been driven but just enough to keep everything in the engine lubed.

Link says it brought $85,000. I was actually expecting it to top $100,000. The economy must be worse than they say it is.
