4010 with 4020 kit

Was talking to my uncle last night about a 4010 grandpa bought new in 1961. Mentioned I'd probably eventually get it restored to keep for a family piece. He said don't be in a hurry to touch that engine, it didn't have many hours on a rebuild. THen he said in fact he had it "redone" with a 4020 kit. He thought that it was resleeved and 4020 pistons where put in slightly upping the HP. Said he remembered it pulled a little better and ran cooler. I guess from new it had alway run a little hot. A great uncle bought it in the 80s and never did much with it. Unfortunantly it sat outside in the sun in western KS for many years, but the folks at the dealership said it was a real nice one that would clean up really well.

I was wondering what you could tell me about the 4020 kits the dealships were doing to 4010s, and if his recollection of it was correct.

some of the jd guys can tell you more but it basically turned a 380ci into a 404ci, alot of people prefered the M&W set as they improved cold starting,I believe jd has since aquired that design, I helped a guy feed cattle in hs with a 3010 with M&W's and it started very well in SD.

Basically one could only get a 404 cid piston/liner kit from JD for a 4010 for years. Yes it gives an engine more CID but without turning the fuel up not that much advantage. Similar to boring a automobile engine .040 oversize

I think the 4010s hav a shorter stroke crank shaft naking a smaller C I but not shure,,,,If anybody knows for shure would be fun to know.......I dout if u can even buy a 10 kit any more,,,Least ways iv not seen one.....
