older haying equipment again

Since an earlier posted discussed the age of his haying equipment I thought I'd put mine on here and see if anyone can beat it. I'm doing about 1500 bales per year with the following:

Cutting - 1955 300U with 469 haybine. Not sure of age of the haybine - late 60's?

Tedder - bought a new one 10 years ago - only new piece I will ever own

Raking - 38 F14 on a IH 3 bar steel wheel rake, 43 H on either a 4 bar NI rake on steel or same rake on rubber. Not sure of age on any of the rakes bit I think both NI rakes are 60's or older.

Baling - 43 M on model 46 baler. Baler is early 60's.

Wagons - 3 electric wagons I think all from the 50's.

Own - 57 years old - only thing that breaks down much.

A lot of old equipment is pretty reliable if you keep on top of it.

Mowing-49 Farmall H with a NH 461 haybine
Raking-63 Massey 35 with Ford 3 point side delivery rake
Baling-Same H with a NH 67 Hayliner

Just for giggles and grins sometimes we rake with an old f-12 on steel and an old rake. Really gets the looks along the highway in the front fields

LOL I still have my super 68 NH but don't use it much...I much prefer my CaseIH 3650 round baler, lot less labot intensive!

Well as of right now I have a IH/Farmall 340 rowcrop not sure of the year but has to be late 50s or early 60s hooked to the NH460 a good number of years older then the haybine you are using. No tedder. Rake is hooked to a 1954 or so A/C WD45 not sure the model if the rake but it is an old IH. NH271 baler hooked to a series 2 D-17 A/C and if I remember right it is a 1959 or 60. NH 850 round baler hooked to an Oliver S88 which is a 1955. Just did 6 bales this evening with the NH850 and the S88

I'm very modern with my JD 4010 & 4020, mow with a NH 469, rake with a Ferguson TO20 & NH 55 rake and bale using two JD 336's. Use a Grimm tedder. My wagons are all old JD gears with new steel racks. All American, built to last for decades. Do 4,000 small sqrs a year.

I'd help my cousin rake up weeds in the old pasture, him on the old Ford and me riding Gran-pa's sulky rake. I'd kick the foot-release as we went over the windrow. I rally enjoyed that, lining up the windros as best I could, until we raked over the nest of bumble-bees. They all boiled past me, I tried to yell "LOOK OUTTTTT!!!!!!" but it was in slow motion. They all bombed him on the back of his neck. Last time we raked iwth then sulky rake.

At the farm museum we use a 49 Ford 8N with a 501 mower to cut most of the time ( but sometimes use a 50 Cub with #22 mower). we have a mordern 2 basket tedder, To rake we have a New Idea 401 wheel rake. Our baler is a NH 68 with a wisconsin 2 cyl. power unit sitting on top. As for hauling the bales in we use an old 2 place snowmobile traler.
This hi-tec operation makes about 600 bales a year to feed animals with 2 retired men.

I watched the guys over the fence put up 17 acres of hay, using an old self propelled Hesston 500 swather and a John Deere 500 big round baler. Their tractor is a 560 that they leave sitting in the driveway because all the leaking oil will kill grass in the field.

They are on week 2.

For cutting I use my M M GVI and IH nine foot haybine , dont generally rake ,For baling I use my Minnie and 850 NH baler [The old Minnie doesnt have live pto so gets tricky at times] If I have to turn the hay I just open up the back gate and run the swath through, works pretty good with the floor chains, a few years back I was doing that and when the neighbours would drive by ,slow down and point at the back of the baler ,they all must have thought I was drunk and forgot to close up the back end when I dumped the last bale, It fluffs up the swath and you dont lose a lot of leaves like raking..
