Someday I am moving East

I have got to convince the wife that we need to move east for my sanity. I am going crazy reading about all these great antique farm equipment shows where they actually do some thing at the show. Here we have two per year close by in the Panhandle and all they do is line them up in rows and let people walk by and look at them. For my sanity I need to at least get back to KS or MO where they have pulls, rides, thrasher demos, and plow days. Guess I need a shrink to write me a prescription.

Don't need to be that drastic just make a trip to Canandaigua NY for the NYS two cylinder expo next weekend or to the same place in early August for the Pagent of Steam. Both great shows with lots going on like plowing and such.

I reckon I don't understand the attraction; maybe I spent too many tens of thousands of hours in the seats of tractors, combines and cotton pickers. Have been to one tractor 'show' and one tractor pull; don't anticipate ever going to another of either. To me, tractors and equipment were a means to an end........making a living. Not knocking it for those who choose to spend their spare time doing it..........I will admit to the unique satisfaction of seeing the soil roll behind a 6-bottom semi-mounted plow or hearing the moan of an A-C silage cutter..........at least for the first few weeks you did it each year.

Yep. Most guys just set up a folding chair next to the carport queen and talk values. I went to a plowing compitetion- once, I didn't partake?, never found another, but wow. Action! tractors doing something, steam running a threshing machine, everyone staying awake! there is this 'zargray' museum thing way down in conneticutt a couple times a year, hey atleast stuff is up and running, making noise, moving dirt- doing something besides sittng there stone cold lookin purdy.... next show, try to bring a small cart or wagon, give people rides, try to wake up the rest of the gang...

Not all that far from you is the show at Fairview, OK in September. There will be threshing, plowing, saw mill run by steam engine, house moving demo by steam engines, staw baling with stationery baler, etc. Antique tractor pull on Saturday afternoon. Good show. Usually about the third week-end in Sept.

You need to come to Rantoul, ILL. for the Half Century of Progress in August if you enjoy seeing tractors "do something". There is so much going on you won't see it all in 3 days !

I have the best of all worlds, lots of shows within driving distance with plowing, sawmilling, etc. and my own 12 acres to do it all on my own every year. Each season gives me a little seat time doing every farm job from plowing to harvest. And there's not enough of it to ever get tiresome. I still enjoy the shows, you always see something you never saw before if you really look. Great bunch of folks too.

Gotta agree with that! No fun watchin someone else plow any more than seeing tractors sitting in rows. Ya only need one buddy with like interests (need someone to take pics and videos) and your equipment and a small 10 acre field some farmer doesn't like messing with and go at it. No time constraints , no egoes , no "hot dogs" , just a blank slate and you are "Picasso"....GIT-ER-DONE!!!
