Did any of you go yet??? I had not gone for ten years or more. A neighbor that just quit milking wanted to go. He never had the time while milking. It was a perfect day since it was cool. The Cattleman"s grounds are a good place for the show. There where many interesting tractors there.

I was struck by a few things there:
1) There where very few people there today. I know it is Friday and many are working but it was very lightly attended. Parked right across from the gate and walked right in.
2) The average age of the owners I bet is over fifty-five or sixty. One fellow had a real nice original GP on steel with a four row cultivator. He had given $12500 for the tractor and another $500 for a correct hood/ fuel tank. It ran like a Swiss watch but if some younger blood does not get involved that tractor may sell the next time for $1250. Who in the younger crowd is going to want these high priced collectible tractors????
3) There where fewer tractor there too. I know that the market is down but where are the current owners at???

I wondered if the attitude of some of the club members is finally keeping people away??? I have had run ins with the Correction police type of them. Big reason I had not gone in so long.

I was showing one of them a picture of a JD 4440 high crop that is on this dairy farm in Wisconsin. They us it to push the solid manure up to the pumps in their manure lagoon. The Two cylinder guy argued with me that they never made a JD 4440 high crop with a cab. Well it is funny that this farm owns two. I had pictures of them both. But he just had to be right and I was wrong. LOL Kind of makes me think of some snotty art collector arguing his painting of flying paint splashes is priceless.

Welcome to the John Deere show with its roped off dont get close to my tractor their show just dont get large crowds cause if your tractor isnt perfect with high priced paint you cant show it.

Thanks for the reminder about attitudes.
I believe there's a show scheduled here in NY Jul. 7-9. I was thinking of going. Since I'm not a two cyl. fan I have no reason to argue with any of them, but I'm sure somebody can think of something! If it doesn't work out, I guess I won't make a big effort to get there!
I would however like to find a wide front end for a "new" generation tractor.

That's because we were all at the Red Power Roundup in Albert Lea, MN!! Fairgrounds were full of tractors, bus shuttle us to the gate and back to our cars. Great show!

Gene,s right. iam a big john deere fan. i have 5. my grand dad was a jd man back on the farm. my outher grand dad was a ih man. and i have his f20 and just love it. and i have a farmall a and a 140. but hear in nw iowa the jd boys are stuck up and the ih boys are more down to earth. Bob

Know what you mean about the correction police. Son has a JD 50 he brought back from the dead. Got the cerficate as to when it came off of the production line, It is used everyday on his farm. Well my brotheer in law (very active 2 cylinter) was visiting, Trator had just came in off of the baler and was in its work cloths. His remark "You got some oil seals that you should have replaces look at the dust they collect."

Havent been since Grundy Center twice and the Waterloo airport before that. At the last grundy Center one tractor that was accepted with the ends of the trear axle one collor, he had to before he could unload get some paint and repaint the ends of those axles. Last I hear of any locals going. Cannot afford to make the thousand mile trip anymore. Some of there rulls disgust me. I would like to see a nice 38 A with electric start and I know that was avaible as a after unit, from Deere or not but they would not let that tractor on the grounds because it never rolled out of the factory like that altho the AO did come from factory like that.

In response to question number 2, younger guys are still raising kids and paying the bills. Maybe I'm the only one, but I don't suppose most guys still raising kids have an extra $15,000 to buy a collector tractor. My Dad didn't when all seven of us were still at home, but now that the nest has emptied out, he's slowly getting those things. I hope to be able to when I'm 60, but it will be a while. I'm not willing to take on more debts, so I guess I'll just have to wait my turn!

My family has had only John Deere since the early 1900's.That being said I wont ever go to another one after taking a tractor to one that was the wrong "shade of green"?To many people there are like some on this site,it is either their way or it is wrong. The two cylinder club dont have room for tractors that have to earn their keep!

You probably mean the JD expo at the Steam Pageant grounds in Canandaigua 7/7-7/9. I may go either Fri or Sat. depending on the weather - if its good I'll be trying to get some hay baled .

Just got back from the RPRU in Albert Lea. Tons of people there on a nice day Friday.

At last years expo in Waterloo, you could have shot a cannon off most anywhere and not hit anybody.

Seems like most anything goes at red power - pristine to "look at all the stuff I added to my tractor". Guess that keeps it interesting for most any taste.
