Welding cylinder head

I have to get a 6 cyl diesel head welded and I was wondering what it might cost before I take it in. It is cracked in 5 places.

First of all what brand of head? Do you know a lot of older diesel head crack and the cracks do not hurt any thing. How about more details? Have you had the head pressure tested?

6 cracks? I think you better hunt for a new one.

No idea on the cost... but I expect to have it done correctly it will be significant. I think you best ask yourself first and foremost wether this is off a 6-71 Detroit that can be obtained cheaply (relatively) or mabey this is off an essex tri directional and the head is made from unobtainium... Then mabey you repair the head...

depends on what the head is off of , where the cracks are located ,how much machine work is needed after welding . Midwest cylinder head in Neveda Iowa does great work .
