I bought Firestone SAT II 16.9x28 so as not to get taken on foreign, undersized narrow tread tires. (A neighbors 13.6x28's looked good)
I was unhappy after mounting them that the tread was so narrow.
I just parked my newly acquired JD 2510 next to them. (It has Firestone traction field and road 15.5x38)
Now I am p!ssed. The 15.5 tread measures wider than the 16.9 !

Bob the 15.5X38 traction field and road was a short fat tire, shorter than most other 15.5X38. I am trying to remember, I think you have as much or more tread surface on the ground with the SAT 16.9X28's

I agree.

Bridgestone/Firestone has significantly reduced the amount of rubber in their tires.

I bought a set of Firestone 13.6 X 28s about five years ago only to find that they were a fill 1 1/2" more narrow than a 15 year old set of 13.6 X 28 Titans that I have on another tractor. Moreover, the lugs are much more narrow, which will result in much more rapid wear.
