535 JD baler

I'm hoping to upgrade to a 535 JD round baler and will be traveling 110 miles to look at one wednesday.
I'm not familar with these balers and would like some suggestions on what to look for in the way of expensive future repairs.
The fella says it's "field ready", has always been shedded (but the ribbed floatation tires do have some cracks between the ribs), and the belts still have "2 marks remaining" on them (whatever that means).
It does NOT have net-wrap.
He's asking $4500.00 for it.

have a look at the metal thickness of the end gate where the bottom roller bolts in.

I have repaired two of these 535's where the bottom roller had broke out cause the sheet metal was wore trough.

They're good balers,but i wouldn't want to own one.

If you can get the seller to open tail gate, then lock it and look inside for wear on baler sides. Look for holes worn through the metal. Look for wear on the metal starter roll. JD OEM belts come with 3 steps on the tread so if it still has "2" then there should be quite a few bales left in the belts. Turn the rollers and check for tight or noisy brgs.

The fella that owns the baler called this evening and we changed the day I can look at the baler (because he's busy cutting wheat right now).
I asked how many bales he thinks have been thru the baler, and he's guessing about 12,000. He said the baler had 700 bales on it when he bought it, and he has probably averaged 600 bales per year since he has owned it. He has never baled alfalfa with it, says all the bales he has baled with it have been "cane".

Questions for Tx Jim,... does 12,000 bales sound like a lot, when compared to the approximate life span of a JD 535 baler?
Does cane cause noticeably more wear on round balers, than alfalfa or brome grass?

12000 bales on a 535 would be very few for its age. I think cane wouldn't be any harder on baler than other crops.I traded off a 6 yr old 467 that had 30000 on it and now my new one has over 12000 and it's a 2005 model. I've slowed down in my custom hay baling business because of my disability and the drought conditions Texas has been experiencing.

As I previously stated in you liked the 510 you'll love the 535.
