Yep it is used to blast air into a tubeless tire to seat the bead. I have made a few of them, I always wince when I take the torch to a LP tank.LOL Vic

That is an easy one. It is a tool used to keep a person head on his shoulder. Yes I know because it takes the place of starting fluid in a truck tire and a lighter to get them to seat and yes I have used both ways over the years and both have there moments, the tank can knock you off your feet and the starting fluid can knock your head off

you can use that to blow gophers outa the other end of the tunnel if you stick that pipe in one end and open da valve.prob works on wood chucks too.

Mebby it'll blow that 8n outa sight.

the start of a very awesome potato cannon if you unscrew the top
tire inflater piece and stick a big pipe on the end. Used to shoot
rebar across a several hundred yard field with one.

I have all most like like it: Mine is air booster for blowing up the tire so it will stick to the rim so you can put in the tire;

ost of you were right it is for beading tires. I built it from a old 20lb propane bottle. If you are not a welder do not try this on your own it can be very dangerious!!

I watched as a kid seated the bead on a little wheel off a pressure washer with one of those. The wheel was laying on the floor when he hit it. It blew the wheel across the shop, he retrieved it and put it on the pressure washer fully inflated and ready to go. Jim

Yeppers, an accident looking for a place to happen!!! Propane tanks are not designed for high pressure.

At first glance I thought it was part of what we call in UK a "Pigeon banger" i.e. a propane gas bird scarer which makes a loud bang at regular intervals . Now I see the proper explanation I would love to know how it actually works.

bead seater--how many psi do you put in it? i guess it's passed all the tests so far---if i build one, can i send it to you for testing?-ha-paul---

Um, what do you consider high pressure?

LPG tanks are DOT standard of 240 psi. Doubt many home shop compressors will go that high and probably not many commercial ones.

Home made bead cheetah. You're taking a chance posting this in case some of the safety nannies see it and pay you a visit....
I use ether myself.

Propane tanks are usually rated for 250 PSI. Propane is boiling in the cylinder and that's what creates the pressure. It isn't put in with pressure added. Propane is always stored in liquid forum but can be used in liquid or vapor form depnding on the application. That why there's different types of tanks.

?????? Propane tanks are rated at either 250 PSI or some motor fuel tanks at 312 PSI. In order to pass inspection they must not deform at four times rated pressure. That 20 lb tank would have been tested at 1000 PSI to be certified for sale.

Yeah, I had a close relative blow himself up and get dead trying to drill an "empty" propane tanks like that! Don't do it!
