I've traveled from Crawfordsville, Indiana to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the last 50 years, even before I-74 was built. After I-74 went through, I passed a huge factory on the north side of the road on the east side (I think) of Danville.

Haven't been through there for a couple of years, but it was being torn down.

Can someone tell me what that factory was?

Just to make this post legal, did that factory have anything to do with tractors?

Thanks

I remember seeing it also. Seems like it was a General Motors plant of some sort, maybe transmisssions?

yep was A GM Foundry, closed in the late 80's, the whole town is dying. GM, General Electric, Hyster there all gone and all union.

I've been in that foundry. Many years ago working for Xerox, I was called to service a copier there. Don't know how the machine worked at all due to the amount of dust and grit collected on it and in it. It was in the worst condition I ever saw. The operators didn't care about copy quality at all as long as they could read it. Sure glad I didn't work there.

Yep! I Live in central Illinois and my brother lives in Danville. That was a foundry for GM for many years. They did casting for engines and other items there.
