Guys, We have had 3 Aussie Blue Heelers over the last 25 yrs or so.....
Doc... My original Heeler I had him before I had my wife. This dog just about walked on water as far as what he could do! I had to put him down on 4-15-96 My first put down!
Philly, short for "Land Fill" dog... This little female was abused before we got her and gave her a home till she died!
Pepper, Out current Heeler, My Sons main Buddy, he is 14 yrs old now, almost blind, just about deaf as a post, But the "Want to" is just as strong as when he was a pup. I am not looking forward to the day I have to put my old friend down.
Those are the names of our dogs here at the house over the last few yrs. Sorry I got to rambling>
Later,
John A.

Lets see there have been quite a few over the years.
Growing up there was FRECKLES, a cocker spanial with 'freckles'.

Then TROUBLE a stray that was one of the best dogs a kid could have...kept me out of trouble...

My first dog as an adult was a stray, mixed breed puppy I named PINKY. When I picked her up off the side of the road in the pouring rain the only thing that stood out about her was her pink belly.

Pinkly had a litter of 6 pups, three sets of 'twins' with a male and female in each pair. Injun (had a white stripe mohawk) and Snuggles (extreemly fluffy and friendly) were one pair, PJ (Pinky JR looked like her mom and Biscuit (dough colored) were another pair, and Velvet (short velvety hair) and her make twin (never could figure out a good name for him) were the last pair.

Right now I've got a lab named Roscoe. He was origionally named Rocco when my ex room mate got him. He was somewhat renamed after the sheriff on Dukes of Hazard. I say somewhat because my room mates son loved the Dukes, and because the first thing he did when I came home was get excited at the new person and then jump on my room mates lap and let it flow. So instead of Roscoe P. Coletrain he became ROCSOE PEEEEEES on EVERYTHING.

Now go course there is my wife's old poodle named JADE and my daughter's Chiuahua named CINNAMON. No clue where either of those names came from...

Bet he has to spend lotsa therapy time explaining to the dog that he is a Crimson Tide fan, and there is no reason to go jump in the river..."you AREN'T named after him! LOL

Back in the sixties we had a black dachshund-whatever mix. Can't repeat his name now, but at the time it was a natural.

Had a pair of beagles named Amos and Andy when I was a kid in the 60s. We've had a Lab named Molly--best dog I ever had. You could leave a sandwhich on the coffee table and go outside, She wouldn't touch it--and beagles named Sam, Buddy and Annie. My English setter is Cider Hill Jenny named after two writers for "Field & Stream."

We have a miniature pincher with the name of Spike.
He has his own spiked collar and everything.

My dogs' names are not real interesting but a good friend of my wife has a great dog name story. When she was grow'n up her dad had a black lab named after one of the political parties, will let yall figure on it in hopes this don't get the topic poofed. When any one would ask why he named the dog that he would say "just look at him, he has never worked a day in his life and he just lays around the shop wait'n for me to feed him."

David

Maybe 'Bama is correctly named, if he craps all over, blames your previous dog, plays golf all the time, and other than that, just lays around, and does nothing!

From big to little we have Tucker at about 50 lbs. , a couple 20 pounders Pickles and scooter then the meanest one of the lot weighting in at 5 lbs. is Pig , he thinks he is 10ft tall and the world revolves around him . They are all just cross bred scrubs like me .

I have a dog I didn"t want, some ying yang
dropped off at my house when he was a puppy.
I told the kids to leave him alone & maybe
he"ll wander off & return to his home. Well
yall know the story to this One.. The kids
didn"t leave him alone & he lived under my back
porch, would curl up just outside the back door.
One night it was snowing, so I picked him up
& put him in the barn with the cows. He beat
to my back door.. So I tied him in the barn
& I started to call him Barney... He would
always be at my door waiting for me when I got
home from Work if he was loose. As it turns
out now, he"s probley the best dog I"ve ever
had.. He gets a bath once a week & lives in
my house. Never liked the barn or the cows.
He listens WELL, does every trick in the book
doesn"t chase cars or tractors. I even gave him
away one time to a couple who needed a dog.
He was back at my house the next day, he is
definetly my dog, he adopted me... I wish I
knew how to post his Picture, his name is still
Barney & I would now miss him dearly if he
wasn"t at my home.

Just got a new German shepherd a couple weeks ago, after 2 years with no dog. My 6-year-old son picked her out from the litter and I let him name her (just said it had to be a girl's name)... so this is the 4th Heidi we've had. Other G.S.'s we've had were Buck, two Chiefs, and Sheba. (also at least 2 others whose names I can't remember right now)

My daughter had a Jack russel named "peanut".When She left for collage the dog decided to leave as well(ran off).

I remember the cajun cook, Justin Wilson, saying he named his dog Fido, only he spelled it Phydeaux.

Good thread!! I have two dogs, the first is a chow/lab cross that I got from my sister because the BIL was going to off him he was already named Bear and he does look like a bear! The new dog is a purebred Chow that we got from a rescue that was named Bear, well that was confusing,so we called him sammy

2 border collies. Tess and Bowie. I've had Tess since she was a pup. It was actually a toss-up between Tess and Claire. When Bowie arrived he was named 'Elvis' but somehow I just couldn't imagine standing in a field yelling for Elvis. Since he has 1 brown eye and 1 blue eye Bowie it became [for all you rockers out there].

my dobberman's name is Emitt.Had him since he was a pup. I wanted a good german name for a good german dog. He is my third dobberman ive had. The other is a boxer lab mix named Jax. We adopted him when he was 4months old from the humane society and they had already named him so we left it.
