OT Liberty Belle Crashed

I just saw the story about this, I am glad that all escaped, but am saddened at the loss, because it signifies the reality of those who were assigned to B17's, so that we/future generations may never forget the sacrifice they made, hard to learn that from a book, rather than one seeing or flying in one of these. I've seen it fly several times, not enough $$$ to catch a ride, when it was here, though I have a short video of it in a banking turn over my house, and it came over our barn 30 miles north of here at almost tree top level last summer, I heard it coming and rushed outside to see it.

Today has been a downright depressing day for me besides, hope tomorrow is better, and am glad no one got hurt except an old but worthy piece of history.

Link attached, bunch of sites have the story actually, not that its anything to watch, at least for me, but thankfully they got out, apparently he could not get back to the airfield, cornfield had to do, so the fire apparatus could not get to it in time, so she burned, might have been salvageable had it been the other way, but again he set it down and they got out.

I live near the county airport in Delaware, Oh., I believe she flew over my house a couple of times when she visited this area. Glad everybody made it out, hundreds have survived B-17 crashes because of their tough airframes.

That is shame all right. Everyone got out so that is good. May have some salvageable engine parts. I took my 5 year old grandson to see the WW2 planes when they were in Calif a month ago. Not that B 17, but got to go inside another one. Stan

It is a shame it went down, but it is better to lose it that way than to just have it rot away in some museum.

That is pretty much how I feel about any old and even rare stuff. Better to use it and take a chance on something happening to it than to store it someplace "nice and safe".

Buildings do burn down or get blown away by storms destroying what is in them. Life holds no guarantees that any or all of what we have will still be here a year, month, week, day, or hour from now.

That plane was "just" an item. Irreplaceable, yes, but not a life.

Our loved ones are what is truly important. DOUG

I hate to here she went down, Glad no one was hurt. This past weekend I got to see the only flying B29 in Cincinnati Ohio. She was something to see and to hear. There is a guy close to me who has a P38 trainer that he flys when the farming is done, And have seen P51, P47, Navy Corsares. There is nothing like having your house buzzed by a P47 (Curtis) Thunder Bolt, whisling death! Its part of our history, And I am glad to see these plane still flying and I hope the few that are still flying will be around for many years to come. Bandit
