Help with threaded grease caps

I have a trailer that I think uses very old truck or automotive axles. It is 6 bolt on 5.5 pattern. One set of axles has threaded grease caps which are missing. I just re greased the bearings and would like to replace these or fab somethign up but I have tried everywhere and cant find them. The threads are on the hub and look to be slightly over 2 inches and maybe fine thread. Can anyone help me????? I am about to go crazy! No trailer parts store, or anythign online has them.

Might try Auto Safety House. we have one if Pheonix , Az. Don t know where you are located.
there phone # is 602-269-9721 . Hope I may have helped you .

I think he is talking about the large 'dust cap' on the outside of the axle. I do not know where to find them, though.

that is it except the threaded portion in on the hub itself. (The dust cab is in essence female and the hub is male.) I need to find one or make a contraption. I can weld but dont have a lathe so I cant "turn" anything.

I worked on utility trailers for many years , and Big Fred has the type I ran across. They were on HADCO axles, made in Corona, Calif. Try them @ 951 278 1952

i got a set of hubs on my cattle trailer that are some oddball size too...looked high and low for some and never found any...finally cut the top off a coke can...slipped it over hub...put a hose clamp on can so it tightened up on hub...been on there over 10 years and aint lost one yet.

I had a grease cap missing on one of my wagon wheels. Found a plastic medicine bottle same diameter. Cut top off with box cutter knife, inserted it into hub. Painted the wagon, and painted plastic cover as well. So far it has held up. Paint has kept plastic from drying out, and sealed to hub.

I got a few around the farm, 'bout in the same shape. You can get a couple, 5 years out of a loose fittin dust cap, held on with duct tape!

Wouldn't happen to be a large pipe thread would it? Just a thought...

We've got one wagon with 1/2 a beer can on one hub with a hose clamp. Been there for a while now without issue. Much better than being open to the world and her elements.
