First off let me say I don't care how anyone spells as long as they keep the pictures coming. How about putting (PICS) in the subject line so I don't miss any? Now, as for spelling, when I spell a word wrong a squiggly line is generated under it so I know it's spelled wrong. I used to ask my wife how to spell the word and she would usually get it right but sometimes I would still get the squiggly line. One day my teenage grandson was watching me try to change the letters to get rid of the line and he says to me " you know if you right click on the misspelled word,the computer will give you choices to pick from and you just select the one you want." By golly he was right. Only had to right click 4 times for this paragraph. And another thing I won't waste my time answering anyone's criticism of this post, so don't bother. Now it's up to 6 times.

Your computor does a spell check on this forum? I only have it for emails- I think. Can't tell people there's pics in the post, or you won't read the boring ones. that's part of the game!

It's a proven fact that the worst correct English speaking people live in this Country of the good ole USA. And most need another thing to complain about. so to them ? those ? that don't use proper punctuation, and or Grammar and all those little dados and do dads are made to use also ( And I for one will admit are one) Mispelling a word or five

Isn't / aint any more de meriting Kinda like not seeing the forest for the trees.

The spell checker has made me a better speller because I look at the way I spelled it and try to learn.
Poking replace without looking causes many of my students to make weird funny errors.
Revel Reveal
Forge Forage
Discriminate Disseminate
The list goes on. Jim

LOL It's a matter of "People skills" as they tell you . some just haint got enough nevermind. LOL

Ya over the years many people have kick me because I do not spell well and now the computer helps me do it better but hey I just got by in English when in school and the biggest part was just graduating in the first place with the principal always after me for having long hair and not shaving and all. Sorry but to me if you get it close and other people understand what is said what the heck is the big deal. American English is one of if not the hardest language to learn in the first place and look how many words are spelled different but still sound the same. Like here or hear and there are many many more so who has a degree in English and then who will want to spell check or check where you put the commons or periods etc etc

Words spelled wrong can get expensive. Worse yet, copying wrong can get really expensive.
Example: about 12 years ago I had a minor medical emergency away from home, ambulance & the whole bit. E R nurse copied my information from driver's license & insurance card. A few weeks later i got a letter from hospital that insurance was denied, please send $1873 within 30 days. I called hospital & told them to try again. After several months I asked for copies of all the paperwork, including claims sent to insurance.
Long story shortened, billing clerk copied first & last names wrong & reversed 2 digits of policy number. Insurance company said,"No such person or policy number exists, stop bothering us". I refused to pay for their mistakes, hospital had to eat that bill.

Spelling errors don't bother me...especially on boards like this one. In fact, my keyboard on this laptop sometimes will fail to use the letter "e" even when I DO hit it at the right place and time.

Where I get cranked up is when newspapers use improper spelling and grammar. Those folks have a higher standard to uphold, as newspapers are often cited as historical records. And hiring a editor who can't spell or who doesn't know proper grammar and punctuation is pretty much inexcusable...because there ARE people out there who know what's correct and what's not, so it's not as if it's some sort of lost art.

But on these boards, if you can get your idea across the way you meant it, you have communicated...mission accomplished.

I come across words I never had to write down in 70 years.Isopropyl is one,actylene is another.At 70 I started typing strange words.I have seen steal spelled for steel.Coder pins and carter pins.My wife said she knew what a cotter pin was when she used to hand cotter pins to her dad when he was working on some thing.Breaks for brakes.Most posters cant spell generator, carberator, distributor.There are several ways to spell some words.A vice is a bad habit, a vise is used to hold items.A Barstead file has another common name.My flint lock rifle has some odd names for its parts that I cant print on here.If I cant spell a word I ask my wife.My Border Collie can spell a few words.If you spell car, truck of ride or out he runs to the kitchen door.The word coarse has several spellings.Dosent matter.

My feeling is that some people are just naturally better spellers than others. Just like,sports, music, art, etc.; it's just more "natural" for some people. No big deal; also, a lot of things that people on this board think are spelling errors are really "fat-fingered" typing issues.

Mis spelling can cause trouble.A chuch paper came up with this.There was a parakeet judging contest at a county fair. The chuch paper said that Mrs Ann Foley a member of the church had the biggest pair of parateets at the fair.

A few misspelled words can be expected, it's just the absolute lack of proper grammar and the inability to compose proper sentences that yank my chain. That's the problem with our society today. It used to be that semi-literate people were ashamed of their lack of skills, now people will viciously defend themselves, and others, and have made it acceptable to slaughter the english language. Guys like me are called jerks and worse for trying to stand up and keep our society from sliding into the abyss.

Correct spelling and punctuation can save lives. Note the difference between:

"Let's eat, Grandma"

and

"Let's eat Grandma"

I like the guys who bail hay. Maybe they bale water out of their boat..wonder if they were ever out on bale?
I taught for 31 years and ran the family farm.I suppose that my years of identifying and correcting spelling and grammer errors has left me oblivious to the fact,I identify errors,mostly ignore them but,wish I could correct them. I don't let it bother me.

I saw a 'small square bailer' just the other day. I was at the local truck stop one night and they were using a somewhat square scoop to get the ice and water out of the salad bar.

I can relate to that. Once while working for a newspaper called the Seward County Independent, I had a hospital bill sent to the county welfare office.

Seems someone in the hospital"s billing department had read "Independent" as "Dependent" and thought I was on welfare as a dependent of the county. As it happened, from my work, the people in the county welfare office knew me and knew I was gainfully employed. They caught the error first.

There's a good reason for that. there are alot more people on the net needing to get out of jail, than there are interested in squeezing dry grass into a cube

I took ONE foreign language when I was in school. IT WAS CALLED ENGLISH!!! That is pretty bad for a native speaker of the language to say this. I can not spell either. In high school I had a English teacher that made you copy any word you misspelled 100 time to be turned in to her. She is also the teacher that told my mother she did not have a clue I was interested in science after I gave a demonstration of my winning science fair project. This was ONE of the many obstacles that cause me NOT to seek any retraining after I was laid off for my Electronic Technician job at a local Television plant 19 years ago YESTERDAY. I would have had to take additional English courses that would have been a WASTE of my time, the instructors time,and the money to pay for the cost of the course.

I am pretty good at spelling and grammar and I see a lot of misspelled words and not so good grammar on this board.

I DON'T CARE. That's not the point of this board and no one is getting graded on it.

I enjoy the posts & pictures and don't give a flip about the spelling or grammar. As long as the message gets through, no one should care.

Just my .02

Poor spelling and grammar i can overlook, although it does bother me some (son of 2 teachers!). Mixed tenses about drives me nuts though!

If somebody can't take the time and effort to repair the majority of spelling and grammar error. Just how particular are they doing anything and everything else?
Do you want your dentist or surgeon to say "good enough will do"? Or if we get 90% of the fasteners torqued on your airplane, that's close enough?

I guess that having the correct spelling is nice but as long as I can read the body of the item being talked about I can figure it out.
Its always nice that they want to ask questions or answer questons. This is a good forumn & I enjot reading the articles even if I don t farm . I was raised on a farm & I still enjoy the farmers talking about the good times as well. Keep up the good work , don t worry about the spelling the ones that do can t do the work anyway. Just an observation of my 71 years.

We're getting "dumbed down" everywhere.

Guy on here awhile back was looking for information on his Kabota tractor. I advised him of the proper spelling, then suggested he Google.

Shouldn't have bothered. I Googled "kabota", it listed results for "Kubota" instead, and got 39 zillion hits.

I've always been a good speller (have to be when you write for a living). I try not to correct folks on spelling or grammar, unless its vital to what they're trying to do (Kabota). People have strengths in some areas and not others. You do wonder about the educational system when some cannot even make themselves understood on here, though.

Was, were, do, does, is, are, a few things trip my trigger.

What aggravates me more is when a poster uses capital letters throughout a post EXCEPT for a brand name.

It is journalists and broadcasters that I hold to higher standards, not the fellows that post here. I kind of see red when I hear "more funner" used in a broadcast.

Please pare a pair of pears for me. Spelling can be tricky but is quickly forgiven.

Hi B&D: Your right about aircraft. I want 100% of all fasteners torqued the right amount on mine... Well, at least on all critical flight parts. I had the entire Oil Cooler start to crack open due to a certified mechanic sloppy work in which 2 of the 4 bolts fell off. All 4 were NOT safety wired and 2 were missing.
...and when told, he indicated he didn"t give a f%$#@ rip. That would've cost me a new engine, and a forced landing, just days before spraying started. He also did not safety wire Carb. Face it. The world is full of those types. I spent 2 full days inspecting everything he had worked on ..but at another airport shop. So spelling here isn't quite as important here since it is not critial to my life or death... at least so far. ag

B&D is comparing apples to oranges. I'm not going to criticize someone's spelling when its not important. If I were a teacher and it was an assignment, that would be different. If it were a manuscript to be printed, that too, would be different. But the posts on this board are for fun and information. If the spelling and grammar aren't perfect, well that's just life.

Just because someone isn't a grammar/spelling freak doesn't make them a slouch in other areas.

People don't turn the "neat and tidy" switch on and off throughout the day.
If somebody can't take 30 seconds time and effort to clean up errors at a simple task such as writing. What are they going to do when it's actually a difficult and dirty project?

Yes I know how some of that air maintenance goes.
--------------------------------------------------
Default UPS pilots gripe sheet This is a must read
After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a "gripe sheet,"which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by UPS pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers.

By the way, UPS is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an
accident.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.
P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not install ed on this aircraft.
P: Something loose in cockpit
S: Something tightened in cockpit
P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.
P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.
P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.
P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what friction locks are for.
P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.
P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.
P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.
P: Aircraft handles funny. (I love this one!)
S: Aircraft warned to: straighten up, fly right, and be serious.
P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.
P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.
And the best one for last..................
P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget
pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget
I'm the teacher, and I have never counted off for spelling or grammar here. If I did, I might flunk too. Thank goodness for spell check. LOL. If you think it's bad on this forum, you should see the grammar and spelling in the classroom. Two of the most glaring errors are the use of THEIR and THERE, as well as TO, TOO and TWO. When I have to type up a test, I tell the classes that any misspelling or grammatical errors are a typo, caused by sticking keys. Those few that were listening just laugh. I don't pay much attention to the errors here, but rather the content of the post. Keep them coming.
Yes they do turn the neat and tidy switch on and off during the day. I have not so great hand writing but my house, cars and shop are neat as a pin. It all depends on time invested in something versus return. I know a autobody guy who does nothing but perfection for work on cars, yet his office is a mess and so his shop, sort of.
Nancy
b&d aka Glen is a professional at telling other people what they need to do but not practice what he states. I've found several spelling mistakes by him. In fact he misspelled a word on this site today or yesterday. He continually tries to persuade members of this site to buy a new tractor when he won't cough up the $$$$$. He evidently doesn't believe that he should abide by his RULES.
My early John Deere service book says carberator.Again dosent matter.A fellow calls wear on a bolt head ware.
Ed. That is a great quote! It seams that in the last 2 months a whole bunch of AHs have appeared on this forum. As of tonight I am done with it. No more Pics.or anything else. I'm sick of the shi# that these new posters are saying. I have made friends here with many of you, and my e-mail is open to those who I consider friends.If you e-mail me and I don't consider you a friend, I have that little red X that I can push.
My friends; shoot me an e-mail and I will put you in my address book. the rest of you can jump in front of an Amtrack train. I hope I spelled all this wright. Or is the spelling, rite, or right?<
When your fingers are so sore and stiff , ones mind is a bit off reguarding names and events current spelling is just not so important as keeping ones mind as active as possible. I can state motor facts and most info from 20 years ago very accurate. Afew TIA'S (small strokes) and sometimes I cannot recall my newer friends name. Kids at ag shop where I volenteered joked with me as I could state spects from memory on cockshutts from 30 to 50 years ago but had real trouble rembering their names all semester. If teenaged boys could overlook an old fellows problems and glean mechanical skills with out getting uptight I think tractor friends could be more tolerant.
I use the spell check on the Google Tool bar( that is the only reason I loaded it).
I am well aware of my bad spelling and at times ashamed of it. I have taken 3 different English to help me with it and never passed them.It has held me back in the corporate working world. I spent hours at it as it was my $ 800 bucks that paid for it so I could get in to night school.I do use spell check and also right click to check the synonyms to double check that I am using the right to or two or too and things like that.Some people can spell others can use wrench well it is life get over it.I do not post much as I have been jumped on because of my spelling which I work at very hard to check and make right.As I said I am ashamed of my spelling so the last time I got jumped on for my spelling and lack of punctuation I just quit posting and only post when some thing such as this irks me.
Don't let things get to you........... If anyone wants to impress b&d or any other perfectionist clowns, just type everything in MSWORD, use spell/grammar check, then copy/paste to here...... But, you gotta put a value on a fool's opinion. Me, I don't think he is worth it..
Just how many of you, "spelling and grammar aren't important" people are also "Make English the Official National Language" types? I bet most of you are. When you hear "Prensa uno para espanol," you see red.
You know what that makes you? Hypocrites.
If you're so hot and bothered by people speaking Spanish, Chinese, Hindi when conducting their own personal business, the LEAST you can do is be able to conduct yourself using your own native language properly.
Nothing worse than someone complaining about two people speaking Spanish on the street in broken, misspelled English.
