algi in diesel fuel

Find an additive that has a biocide in it and treat the fuel. You"ll probably have to drain and clean the tank or you"ll fight clogged strainers ands filters until you get rid of all the stuff. Treat your fuel regulalrly as a preventive.

power service make "bioclean" can be found at most autoparts/truck stops, and shurly a farm suppy place would too

To make sure you get your tank and fuel cleaned, you must have the tank full of fuel when you treat it. The "bugs" live on the tank wall surface as well as in the fuel where the water and fuel levels meet.

If several gallons is all you've got then the best thing to do is simply drain the tank and get rid of it. Then clean the tank out as good as possible to get as much of the 'solid' contamination out as possible. Alot of people would stop there and put in new fuel and think that all was good from then on, but that's a huge mistake. I don't care how clean you think you've got the tank the algie will grow back unless you actually kill it with a product designed to kill it. I watched a customer that had had algie in a 200 plus gallon tank. They opened it up and literally steamed out before refilling with fresh fuel. It only took a few days for the mess to get growing good again, and it wasn't pretty when their crane blew the fuel filter out with the crane in the middle of a road they were crossing.

That said, the best stuff I was able to find for them is called Biobore. They put it in the tank and it did it's job. Plan on keeping a few extra fuel filters on hand for awhile after treating the fuel because they will clog with the dead algie but after all the dead stuff gets filtered out then your in the clear. This mess can be a royal PITA so good luck.

(quoted from post at 08:20:30 06/11/11) get rid of the water,..it lives in water and eats deisel,...no water, no problems

No exactly. Yes water contributes to Algae growth but if Algae is present in a diesel fuel tank then a Biocide is required to get totally rid of it.
