Just wondering

I have always wondered why the largest letter tractor was a "G", and the next two in line were an "A" and a "B".
Those letters correspond to a music chart, do they not?

(quoted from post at 11:41:06 06/10/11) I have always wondered why the largest letter tractor was a "G", and the next two in line were an "A" and a "B".

And why is the John Deere H smaller than the Farmall H, and the John Deere M smaller than the Farmall M, but the Farmall A is smaller that the John Deere A? In the words of Larry the cable guy, "I just can't figure that out"!

This was way before my time so don't blame me but I was told G was selected as many dealer orders were placed by phone during this era and Deere did not want a model number that sounded similar to anything in the line-up at that time.
