The older we get......

Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you
could have an order of 6, 9, or 12 Chicken McNuggets.

I asked for a half dozen nuggets.

'We don't have half dozen nuggets,' said the teenager at the counter.

'You don't?' I replied.

'We only have six, nine, or twelve,' was the reply.

'So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?'

'That's right.'

So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets

(Unbelievable but sadly true...)

I called in my local newsagents for something ( I forget what ) but while I was there I asked the young girl who was serving me for half a dozen postage stamps. She looked at me rather puzzled and then ( I kid you not! )turned to her boss and said "Mary, what's half a dozen? "

I remember a few years ago; but dont remember which state it was. A farmer went to his daughters school to talk about problems the girl was having, & the teacher told the farmer it was because of all the chemicals that he, & all other farmers, puts in the food. He assaulted the teacher & Police were called before it was over! I am sure the teacher chalked it up to being an un-educatted farmer.

Try mentioning to a generation Xer that something costs "a buck six bits", if you REALLY want to get the stares.

Even back in the '60's, our school had a cheer, "two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar. . ." More than one new cheerleader asked the pep advisor what a "bit" was.

Hey Mike,

What's a "bit"? Heard it used before, (ie cummins two six bits with an iron lung) but it's a little before my time.

But yeah, not knowing what a dozen is is a little much.

My Dad who lives in a retirement park had a new neighbor move in recently. The lady saw him the other day and said "I understand your son sells eggs?" He said yes, he sells them to any of us old folks here in the park for $1 a dozen. She said "tell him I"ll take 6 dozen". He calls and says next time I"m over, bring 6 dozen for the new neighbor. A few days later I took over 4 18 packs but the neighbor wasn"t home, so I left them in Dads fridge and told him when he see"s them to let them know they are there. He sees them come home later that day and goes out and said my son brought your eggs over, come get them. She comes in and begins telling Dad she ordered 6 dozen at $1 a dozen, now she doesn"t know how much to pay. This woman is as old or older than I am (creeping up on 60), what the h*ll? Dad said it took him 10 minutes to explain that 4 18 packs was the same as 6 dozen.
Not sure if this is a reason or not, but they do have Missouri license plates on their car.

The Spanish dollar was divided into 8 pieces. Each piece was called a bit. Google for pieces of eight, look at the Wikipedia article and learn all about it.

Old Town, Maine. A sign on the bar said we now have 16 oz. pints! Is there any other????
I often use the one dollar "gold" coins. Paid for a meal at the drive-up window of McDonalds... "Sorry sir, we can't take that. " she didn't think it was U.S. currency.I assured her it was but she had to ask the manager who gave her the OK.
......ain't it great??
Cal

Shame on you Cal. Imagine the problems you caused that little girl at the end of her shift when she had to count out her register. Somehow I doubt she had enough sense to look at it and see it says "One Dollar" on it.
And they say us old folks can"t keep up. Sorta seems like it"s the other way around!

This is NOT a trick question really, its simple logic or simple math, but this would really blow their minds I'm sure...

If it took a chicken and a half (1.5 chickens) a day and a half (1.5 days) to lay an egg and a half (1.5 eggs) HOW LONG WOULD IT TAKE 3 CHICKENS TO LAY 3 EGGS ??????????

You answer please????????????

PS last night I was at Mr Gattis and for the first wife and I the bill was $14.53,,,,so I gave the young female cashier $20.03 IT TOOK HER FOREVER TO FIGURE OUT MY CHANGE, she insisted on giving me pennies and I tried to explain how the 3 cents I gave her made it come out even BUT SHE HAD NO CLUE LOL

I think you mean Gen Y. At 35 this Gen Xer knows what a bit is and why.

Of course any child of the internet worth his salt can Google it and have an answer before an old fart can get done asking "what does brb mean?"

WENT to burger king yesterday asked for no.2 5.99 lady asked med. or large i said 5.99 asked same question 3 times asked for mang. he said honney this boutin . med, was 10percent higher . magior sell trick. tell no employs that. RENE'

My 8th grade daughter helped out at a "field day" Tuesday for younger kids at the school. they play outdoor games to celebrate school ending. One game was "dirty 'diaper" with a wet rag simulating a diaper and a type of relay race to get it to the clothesline and hang it up. They actually had to stop the game and give the kids a lesson on how to use a squeeze type clothes pin because none of them new how to work them!

How about the guy at a fast food place who had $2.35 in change due him. The screen on the register shows an icon for each bill and coin and the number of each due in change. The clerk took out 2 ones, a quarter and then stopped and stared at the screen for awhile. He finally called the manager who came over, looked at the change drawer and saw that there were no dimes. The manager then said "give him 2 nickles" and walked away.

Day and a half is the answer.........Twice as many chickens (2 x 1.5 = 3) can lay twice as many eggs (2 x 1.5 = 3) IN THE SAME TIME.........

John T

YOURE CORRECT twice as many chickens can lay twice as many eggs IN THE SAME TIME day and a half

Ordered Scotch "neat" awhile back, and barmaid gave me a blank look. Apparently, a lot of the folks who order Scotch don't really like it.

I don't argue with the answer, but I think you got the question wrong, John.

If a hen and a half lays an egg and a half in a day and a half, how long does it take a rooster sittin' on a sawdust pile to hatch a two by four?

I worked a concession stand at the local fair in 1976, the year of the infamous Susan B. Anthony dollar. At the end of the day, we had 8 Susan dollars in the quarter drawer.

Just a little bonus for the club, we figured.

A chicken and a half layin' how many eggs? Heck, I'm way past being a Gen Xer, and I still haven't figured out the old head-scratcher about the three men in the hotel.

So those who rush in would say double everything, 3 days...wrong.
Fools rush in, where angels fear to tread.

If a brick weight 9 lbs AND half a brick, what does a brick and a half weigh.

maybe his hens take turns? But the question wasn't about HIS hens. It was Johns hens. And Johns hens each lay an egg in a day and a half.

I was talking to my Grandson last night he is only 8, and we were talking about math
And time traveled.
So I gave him this little problem. And it goes like this.
From point A to point B it takes 90 minutes to walk, but from B to Point C it is the same
Exact distance from Point A to Point B but it takes 11/2 hours to walk it, why?
My Grandson replied , if B and C is equal to A and B it should only take 90 minutes,
So I let look at it for a few minutes then I ask him how many minutes are in a 1 1/2 hours.
He thought for a minute and replied poppa 1 1/2 is 90 minutes.
Thin I replied that is right. The problem with some of the kids today is CALCULATORS, and not spending enough time figuring things out on there own.
That’s just my thought.

Depends on how many went into and out of the quarter drawer. :)
