bad day in hayfield

I had mowed a total of about six acres in two places about two miles apart. Two of my driest fields to start the season with. The weather didn't cooperate real well, just as much clouds as sun but the air has been very dry. I held off on raking until about 1:30, then went to bale at about four. After hooking to baler, low hyd. press. light came on, revved up a little, it went out. Checked oil level to be sure. Went to first field, three times around I heard a chattering noise from baler then bang. Cleared the chamber, checked it all out, needles were in chamber, don't know why. Cycled twice no problem. Started to feed a little more hay, low hyd. press. light on again. Tractor (Ford 8240 16 speed electronic power shift) won't move. power steering works, PTO engages, lift will lift if I rev it enough. but not enough pressure apparently for clutches. Called friend, he will bale onto my wagons for me tomorrow. I'm hoping the problem is just a plugged filter, even though it's about 100 hours shy of time to change it. Ain't haying fun? :(

I know what you mean, Monday master link came apart on the old 848 baler apron chain, fixed it and went back to the field worked ok.
Mowed 10 acres of really good hay got about 19 rolls done today and the smae chain broke in other spot. :x
 
You call that a bad day?? How about starting out with a brand new discbine, one 10 foot on the front and another off to the side first trip around the field and found out the county had cut a tree along the side of the road. Left the stump just about 10 inches high, in 18" hay. Good heavy hay what with all the rain we've had.

Thanks for reminding me not to take my good luck for granted.

Yesterday I baled squares off of a 3 acre field, put the hay in the barn, then went back and plowed the field. Woke up this morning and spread manure on it for about 6 hours, then disked, dragged, drilled sudex, and dragged again. I've been running a tractor for 17 of the past 26 hours and not a single thing broke. I guess you don't remember the good days as much; Because it sure seems like I'm always dealing with break downs :)

Your hydraulic problem sounds more like a clogged intake screen than a plugged filter to me. Filters have relief valves inline so that even if the filter is clogged, you still have hydraulic pressure. I have no idea where the intake screen is on your tractor though. On all of mine, it's on bottom of the transmission housing and you have to drain all of the hydraulic fluid out and buy a new gasket to clean it.
 
Yes that's bad. Is it repairable? Today I went out and reraked, to get ready for my friend to bail me out. we got into the field at about 1:45 and then adjusted on his JD kicker for the next three hours. Finally in order to get one wagon loaded I walked beside his baler for about six rounds manually tripping the baler. There's still another 75 or so bales worth in the field. Fortunately I had two customers lined up to pick up off the ground. I probably won't be able to sleep tonite after all that wear on my zero cartilage knee. After dropping off the loaded wagon for a customer I worked in the shop on the baler for two hours but didn't find the problem yet.
