Have an 11-year old Troy-Bilt mower, 50" cut, Kohler 23-Hp engine. I service everything every fall, but cannot figure what to do or when to do it, for the hydro. I dont see any place to fill fluids, or change filters, or anything. The manual does not even mention the hydro.
Any recommendations??
Thanks.

I have had more trouble with hydro when customers try to do service on them. very few issues if they just leave them alone. yes they can be serviced, but if its working fine and makes no noise then i wouldn't worry about it. some have filters some do not it just depends on whats under your unit. soe unts only way to change oil is either suck it out or dismantle housing on unit. Are you talking tractor style unit or zero turn mower? Same theory applies thou good luck let me know if you do want go ahead and try do something wih it thou

Thanks. It's a tractor-style, the hydro unit lives under the seat / battery area, with the two axles coming out the sides. It never has had a problem, or noise, or anything. I just get worried about it.

I was told hydro units on mowers tend to last a certain amount of hours before they fail and then you just replace them. (not cheap!) Hours depended on size and how well they are cooled. So keep dirt and debris off of them so the cooling fins can do their job. I think some of the better ones might have small fans.
