Gotta feed some st and wheat summer/winterraw this year to stretch the hay for the case that 2nd cut is as bad as first. Oat straw is #1 choice but can't locate any local. barley straw is available to me for the baling. ??? is, is there a difference in the feed value (what little there is) in summer and winter barley or wheat summer/winter? Not depending on straw for a lot of nutrition, just to keep them busy and they'll get some pellet feed/minerals along with hay.
So, Barley (summer or winter) or wheat (summer or winter), what would be the best choice for feeding horses?

Thanks, Dave

For horse feeding I'd recommend that the straw contain not any to very few seed heads as Wheat/Barley will get doughy when consumed which could give a horses delicate digestive system problems
