dave2,
My wife flew home from Frankfurt yesterday and spotted these white fields from the air. Do you have any clue what they might be?
Thanks - JHH

Looks like it might be a overhead shade over a crop. Can't tell for sure if it is on the ground or elevated above a crop. Similar to what they put up over ginsing in northern Wi..

Maybe it's white popcorn as opposed to the yellow popcorn. I always preferred yellow popcorn. Or, maybe it's a way to organically kill everything in the field and get a fresh start.

could it have been bright yellow?? If so, raps (rape??). They do cover fields with a white sheet kinda like cheese cloth for some reason, but that looks like some good size fields to cover. Could be though, quite a bit of produce in that area.

not going to guarantee it but i think it's white plastic put down over vegetable fields to help the soil warm up earlier and therefore get earlier crops.

I have seen that white sheeting over grapes (for shade) in Italy East of Neples. Pretty large fields there too.

Don't think it was rape, I've seen that from the air and it is bright yellow. She said this was clearly white.

Most likely the cheesecloth stuff then. Looking at the pics, she was lower than I thought and the fields aren't really that big. Don't know what they are keeping in/out but mostly produce is covered like this.
