i spent yesterday changing water in all the livestock tanks, which required filling the water trailer then driving to each one draining, cleaning and filling them, not hard but time consuming, i did this less than 3 weeks ago, now yesterday i found a dead bird in 1, no real suprise there, but the next one held a half of a front deer leg, a first for that, i thought a coon was the only critter that washed its meal first lol

I found that if you put a board, 1x6 or the like, in the tank that it will prevent the birds and frogs from drowning, floats on top and gives them something to sit on while they get a drink.

minnows!kids keep them for bait. we always keep a old wood fence post in ours to let critters out.supposed to help with tank freezing and breaking in winter also,so grandad always said.

When I was a kid, one of my friends family had a huge goldfish in their horse tank--I bet it was 3 feet long! It didn't seem to bother the horses, and it lived in there for years. I don't think they added any real fish food, but rather the goldfish just ate whatever the horses and cows dropped in there, as well as anything that grew in the tank. Kinda neat memory.

mud puppies, snails, and all kinds of green growing plants we call moss. I try to keep the dead birds and mice fished out. I've found raccoons and possums once in a while too. i guess they swim as long as they can. Hawks and owls get trapped sometimes too. I suppose they are getting a drink and slip off the tank rim.

I use to find a drowned barn cat now and then. A few years back I wired one end of a 1x6 to the top to give them a way out.
