Looking for x-tra strong 3/16 cable

I've got a Gravely mower which has a sulky that has a steering cable which usually break every 3 to 4 years. I make my own by brazing threaded adjusters on the ends of cable from a hardware store.

Any tips on a more wear resistant cable? The cable usually frays and breaks where it runs across a pulley.

Aircraft stainless steel cable is available (on line might be easiest)
The pulley diameter is a determining factor as well. The diameter should be 4 inches (seat of pants experience talking).
Lubrication of the cable is also important. Engine oil once a month during use is great. Jim
