O.T.---Generic Drugs

I just found out what I suspected for a long time-Generic Drugs are not the same a Original :?:
My doctor prescribed a GD for my moderately high cholesterol. I had all kind of stomach problems and mild chest pain after two pillls. I stopped the drug and called the doctor. He informed me that some people can't take the GD without side effects and wrote me a new prescription for "Name Brand".
Been taking for a week with no side effects.
Just proves ---If you are Lucky-You Get What you Pay For" :!:

Jiles, You are painting with a very broad brush here......Just because your body didn't react well with the G.D. doesn't mean that all G.D. are bad or wrong. It is just how Your body reacted with it. There are many, many more folks who do use G.D. on a daily basis and do just fine.
I for one, am on a G.D. for Plavix,(ordered from Canada, mail order) The price is {((fraction))} of Name Brand Rx. So to whole sale say that all G.D. are just plain bad is a Gross misrepresentation.
How do I know.....As a Life Ins Agent here in
Texas I take Apps most ever day and the Rx list is part of it. Over 95% of the time the persons I am taking the App on... tell me anything I need to know about the Drug they are taking and why. Most are Generic for it is listed on the Label!
There many folks who take in excess of $1500/Month in Rx. so Generic have helped them maintain some level of sanity in their Rx bill/ month and be able to a ford, Food and Shelter and other essentials.

I didn't say [b:1f9c4a27a6]" all G.D. are bad or wrong"[/b:1f9c4a27a6] ---I said they are [b:1f9c4a27a6]not the same.[/b:1f9c4a27a6] A few years ago, I took a name brand drug for acid-reflux. Worked great, then the insurance company wanted me to try a GB that did not work!
I take a lot of medicine of which some are Generic and they work fine.
I didn't mean ALL GD are bad--just that they are not the same because they are cheaper.

I did a lot of reaserch on name brand and generic drugs when my wife was sick. Found out just about all of them had the same dose and chemicals in them. But with name brand running at over 1100 a month we stuck with the generic brands. She had no problems.

I am no doctor so I can't say why someone would react differently between the two. We did find out that some drugs she was taking. Were not supposed to be taken with her other drugs. The last doctor she had before she died caught it. He raised holy hell with her other doctors.

Just wait until you experience what that statin does to your
muscles, I am going through that now and will never go back
on a statin again.

Generic Drugs work fine for"Generic People" per se,however we are all a little different and though the drug itself is compatible,binders/reagents etc used in it mfg may be what causes some folks issues.I take a shuttload of pills every day and but for issues w/2 requiring name brand, all are generic and do fine.

Tell me about your muscle experience. My Dr. put me on a low dose a couple weeks ago. He wanted to last year, I held off. This time I decided to try it. I questioned him about the side effects, muscle aches etc. He told me it was better than the other option, stroke or heart attack. Seems my muscles are starting to ache a little, but I am not sure I am dreaming it....

To further explain what I am trying to say----I always thought that GD were the same as Name Brand Drugs--just that they are not as pretty, have fancy packaging, or advertising.
I don't blame insurance companies for requireing GD over Name Brand since the cost is less :!:

Last summer I was on GD for cholestrol. It was either that or shin splints but my left leg hurt so bad I had to use a walker to get to my tractor to bale hay...2 different times. Only thing that helped was narc or ice. I went on Crestor and no more problems but it might have gotten better anyway.

Generic and equivalent are not the same. Here the pharmacy will
often explain what the equivalent substitute is, often a different
drug that does the same job.

Generic has the same active ingredients, without paying for all the
marketing. The base its compounded with may be different though.

(quoted from post at 18:38:23 05/30/11) What is the name brand drug you are talking about?
Pravastatin NA 20 MG---Sub for Pravachol 20MG SQUIBB

Strange thing is that I took the GB at bedtime and I take the replacement morning :?:

I take lipitor,( brand name) with no side effects. As a matter of fact it works so well my insurance co. gives it to me free.

My wife and I both take generic meds with no problems.

Some people can't tolorate the brand name drugs. I guess it depends on you body chemistry.

Generic drugs are NOT the same as the name brand. Though they do have the same active ingredient, their "fillers" are different. Most of the time, this doesn't cause any weird effects. I personally prefer the GD, but I also know that sometimes the name brand is better (You get what you pay for - hopefully!).

Quite often the brand co makes the generic as well. Sells generic at a much lower price. Most of our customers demand generics. I would myself. The USA government says they are the same. They do the testing. We as pharmacist don't. I had a customer some years ago who had been taking generic about 6 months. I then told him it was generic. He brought them back later that day, said they liked to have killed him. I had to change him back to brand and charge him more. Mind sometimes plays a trick on us.

I have 12 prescriptions, and get all from the
Veterns Administration. They are ALL name brand
drugs, no generics. $9.00 for a 30 day supply,or
$27 for a 90 day supply.
My wife has 5 prescriptions, and gets them from
her employer health plan. The cost varies from
$5 to $60 for a 30 day supply. They are all
generics, from 3rd world suppliers, and she"s
having lots of problems with them not working!
We have finally changed one to a local pharmacy,
American, name brand, costs more, but works!

Friend is taking several prescriptions.Doctor does blood tests to check amount of medicines present.Doc had generic pills tested, active drug level was way too low.If the major drug co would charge reasonable prices they wouldnt have some much competition.Ford dealer wanted 200 bucks for new gas tank straps for a friends ranger truck.I got them for 34.00 at an auto parts store.Ford dealer wanted 3.60 for a 1/4 inch pop rivet used to hold door lock solenoid in place.Got two for 79 cents at auto parts store.Had to go on a 20 mile trip.Stopped at a body shop they gave me 2 free.Stopped at a small auto parts store and got 2 for 25 cents.I had a jammed lock cylinder.Ford dealer wanted 49 bucks for a new cylinder, no thanks.Took it to a locksmith, he fixed it for 5 bucks,I gave him 10.Rip off pricing is all too common.
