One is for sale near me. Anyone know anything about them. Seller claims that there is a little antifreeze in the oil and states it just a head gasket.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

Rick

If seller KNOWS it is "just a head gasket"... that would kinda/sorta indicates to me that he at least had the head off in order to make "just a head gasket" comment. WHY WASN'T "just a head gasket" FIXED THEN? Something more involved here??

A good running one is not worth much. One with a belly ache is worth scrap. They are costly to work on. Used parts are next to impossible to find. New parts are available but expensive.

Unless it has some personal importance I would invest my money in some other model or brand.

Ok thanks, the picture of the tractor shows it to be assembled and not torn down.

I was kinda thinging about a possible cracked block or head.

It's a size tractor I could use and in a good price range IF only the head gasket is bad.

So I guess I'll pass on it!

Thanks again!

Rick

I am far from a David Brown expert, but I would personally shy away from any of the 4 cylinder engine models as David Brown 4 cylinder crankshafts are weak and prone to breaking. Used crankshafts are hard to find new ones are expensive.

That said, the 3 cylinder engine models are pretty solid machines and can be a darned good value if the price is right. I would not be afraid of any the 3 cylinder engine models.
