Coming home from the dump, I noticed 2 sand hill cranes on the railroad tracks about 100 feet from the roadway. Thought that was a little strange - not much there to eat. Then I saw their chick - all 6 inches of him,between the rails. Couldn't get over the rails. Had to face off 2 adult 4 foot tall noisy parents to force him to walk to the roadway. Twice! Finally, he went into the grass off the roadway. 10 minutes later, a freight can rumbling through! No appreciation from the parents. They are big up close though!

Good for you.
I kind of did my part for the birds on my way back from my land yesterday.
Took out a feral cat with the pickup. They're killing millions of songbirds a year.
