Had a clock radio beside my bed. After bout 10 years it started to gain time, kept getting faster up to about 10 min. a day. Plugged it in out in the kitchen ran fine, never increased by a minute in 2 weeks. Plugged it back in by the bed and it increased 2 hours in 3 days. Moved it to the the laundry room its fine. There are 2 lamps and another radio plugged in,plus a electric blanket. Other clock radio works fine. what is going on? Thanks for any help.

Are the lamps "touch lamps"? They are NOTORIOUS for making electrical noise, apparently more than the aged power supply filter circuitry in the old radio can handle.

I guess I wuld start sleeping in the kitchen! Maybeit is a time machine! I would guess Bob is on the right track, that something else on the circuit is causing it. Maybe, just a thought, there are harmonics from some electrical objects(new fluorescent lights, compputer, tv) and this clock is reading this extra bump in the sine wave as an extra cycle and throwing off the timing. Those are my only guesses, let us know what you find out.

Electric blankets cycle on and off to control temp. This might mess with the circuits in the clock. A analog clock with hands uses a 60 cycle synchronized motor, and would not change unless there were extra pulses in the line voltage. (not likely) a digital clock can accept noise as a pulse and count them as trigger pulses. Hook up the blanket to a different outlet, or circuit, or use a second blanket and unplug the blanket to see if it is the issue. (or it could be Like the movie ground hog day, only happening in bed. The sound from my Radio in the bedroom [internal speaker]is slightly ahead of the radio in the kitchen which comes from a powerpoint near the bathroom into an external speaker.I can't explain it,insignificent really but your clock tantrums would be a PITA to me..

Is this one of the newer clocks that are synchronized to WWV (the National Bureau of Standards' time reference radio transmitter)? If so, it may be it can't receive the signal in your bedroom, so the time is drifting. That said, 2 hours in three days is a lot of "drift".

Turn OFF OFF OFF!!!! the main circuit breaker, and then make sure all the screws in the breaker box are tight. Make sure all the screws in sub-panels are tight. Pull the outlet out and make sure screws are tight. May have to use both screw drivers, and allen wrenches in the breaker boxes. Might be loosing some voltage, and overheating breakers.
