OT--Why so many chipmunks this year??

This year I have seen a lot of damage from chipmunks. They have tunneled under my driveway, numerous holes dug in my rock garden and flowers ruined.
I do not take pleasure in the elimination, or thinning, of these cute little animals, but enough is enough :!:
I have set rat traps and I have carfully placed poison but I do not want to harm other animals.
By chance I think I have found a safe and somewhat humane way to deal with these animals.
Just in the last two weeks, I have killed 9. This was accomplished by spraying "starting fluid" in the tunnel entrence while preventing their escape. After spraying, I cover the opening, and I have not observed the opening disturbed afterwards.
I just saw another one and when I see it go into a hole it will be "spray time" again.
Yes I know it works because I have snared many out of their holes.

I use a small live trap. That way you can decide what you eliminate or release. I catch birds and other animals that I release but tree rats and chipmunks get swimming lessons.

Might be a hard winter ahead. The pines on the property are filling out with pinecones & the chips & tree rats seem to be in abundance. The last time that happened, the snow machine was turned on Dec. second or third & didn't seem to shut off 'till early spring. That was four years ago. However, my "great" luck might prevail & Murphy will prove me wrong.

Don't have any Chipmunks around here, but man we are crawling with those big Junebugs!! Was out driving just before dawn the other week and it was like driving in a hailstorm. When they explode on the windshield it's like a flock of Canada geese are pooping on ya.

Bubblegum. We feed bubblegum to prairie dogs.Plugs em up.they eat it,cant digest it,cant poop it,they die.Maybe it will work on a chipmonk.

i've noticed more snakes this year then i've seen in quite a while,..3 big black snakes, and 3 garter snakes so far

One way to get rid of those critters is to fill a 5 gal. bucket half full of water and sprinkle in some sun flower seeds. The chipmunks dive in to eat, but can"t get out. Killed lots of them that way.

I noticed there are more and more people around every year.
is there a humane way to get rid of these critters or at least thin them out some.
The law says you can't shoot, trap or poison them.

Here is one I caught sleeping next to the Havaheart trap

what you need is a few good cats.
when we moved here lawn was over run with chipmunks.
we got a tom cat and a female cat wandered in they used to sit a the chipmunk holes waiting for them to come out.
we don"t have any of them now.
