Slight Miss

I have a 1940 9n ford. I did the basic tune up (plugs, wires, points, cap, rotor and condencer). I adjusted to carb and cleaned up some of the wiring. I set the points to .015 but at higher rpms it has a slight miss. It does run alot better than it did when i got it.This tractor was not serviced very well by the last owner. Could valves adjustment be a issue and if so how offten should i adjust them?

Not really sure on this one, but I think the original valve clearance wass adjusted by grinding the end of the valve stems. There were aftermarket adjustable lifters available so it may have been changed. Guys on the Ford forum can help more. If the valves are sticking a bit you may be able to free them up with applications of Berrymans B12 solvent to the valves while the engine is idling. I've used it a couple of times with good success. It really will flush off the sludge from not changing oil often enough. Get it at Wal-Mart.

Vacuum gauge and compression tester, which don't cost that much, can be invaluable in assessing a motor's internals.
