5.4 triton ford engine

I have a 99 F250 with a 5.4 Triton and its giving trouble. Last night I was headed home from a tractor pull with an 8500 lb A john Deere on my gooseneck well I started up a long hill fairly steep at 65 MPH about half way up it started "surging" I guess you could say kinda acting like it was shifting back but wasn"t so I hit the overdrive button to bring it back a gear and it was still doing it I replaced the fuel pump, filter ,iac, throttle positioning sensor and cop"s and fuel pressure regulator around five thousand miles ago just for maintence since I use it for towing this problem doesn"t affect power or anything just aggrivating and its not throwing any codes I let it surge like this for five minutes then I checked for stored codes and there was none anyone have any ideas? thanks

If you suspect fuel delivery, we used to tape a fuel pressure guage to the windshield and find a steep hill and go climb it. It may be tough to duplicate without the load on it. Fuel delivery issues can sometimes cause random cylinder misfire codes as well if the misfire is above the threshold established by CARB for OBDII. P0300 is the number. Remember with fuel pressure you must have sufficient pressure and volumn. Usually when volumn decreases pressure drops. Hope this helps. Gerard

It seems like a coil going bad could be the problem but it not nearly as violent last coil that went out you could tell it would jerk and act crazy this problem is smooth the motor just seems to kinda surge up and down in rpms and when it starts doing it it will do it until you let off of it I noticed this morning it was doing at idle speed too I know it motor related just can"t decide where to start

WE had a 97 with whatever the big V-8 is and the surging was bad coils(2 out of 8)
