Electric fence question

We have a dog that likes to dig under our fence in our back
yard. We bought a 2 mile fencer to give him a jolt. I only get
around 2.5 at the wire coming from the fencer before I hook
up the fence. This seems very low to me. I don,t have any
experience with these smaller fenders as I have for our cars.
when I test the outlet what should I get before I hook up the
fence. Like I said I have two other fencers so yes I do know
how to run an electric fence I just never had a small one like
this.

How and what are you testing with to arrive at 2.5 and is 2.5 volts or KV? Try rephrasing your question. What is the car involvement?

I wouldn't expect much from a two mile fencer. I put one around my garden and watched rabbits crawel right through it. I could feel it but that was about it. Switched to a ten mile and they knew it was there. So did the dogs. And no I didn't bother trying it myself.....

(quoted from post at 00:03:40 05/16/11) The least I use to control dogs, backed up with chain link, is a 10 mile charger.
uilt my own...kills squirrels.......probably a legal hazard.

My guess he knows how to check the electricals on his cars but the fencer has him bushed.
Try it out on the dog.

To test mine I use a multi meter. With a moist ground I stick the negative lead in the ground and the positive lead on the fence. I see about 900 V.
