Well we are getting a nice streach of weather here in Central NY after localized flooding, last week. Started planting corn Sunday. We are on high well drained ground here. The farmers just north of us on the rim of the Mohawk River with heavy clay ground are starting tillage, but still iffy in the low spots in fields. The river flats looked dry today. The river went back down and looks like the State will be reopening the Erie Canal System this week, 10 days late due to high water and flooding.

Beautiful farm country there. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pics with us. I am from Southern Minnesota. Very little field work in my neighborhood. Hopefully I can get out there next week.

Just drove west along the Rte 90 last week, heading to sons graduation out in Minnesota. Was Looking at the Canal and saw all the gates wide open and no channel markers out. I did not realize it was shut down for the winter (just never occured to me). We got the son successfully graduated out in Minnesota and are heading back north to Maine but am waiting for the wife to wake up so am writing this from the hotel room out in Watertown, N.Y.. This has been a great trip. I saw a few fields planted and many being worked, but I bet 40% of the un worked were still too wet. I guess I should have been taking pictures as we went along but I drive and the wife is navigator... better that the GPS too!

Such nice country out there! It's rained or been cloudy 8 out of the last 10 days here on the MA coast it seems like. Haven't had to water the garden lately at all but it's been so cold nothing is really growing that great so far. Just hoping we aren't going to have that cold rainy 2008 spring all over again.
