Woods Mower

Guys, I got a Woods L306 6 foot belly mower for my Super C last week. I need to change the blades. Tried to remove the bolts with a 3/4 inch breaker bar and pipe wrench on spindle; will not budge. The old righty-tighty lefty-loosiy, but wondering if they are left hand threads? Any one know for sure before I break something.

Yep, LH thread and what I believe are bellville washer and slip disc. A pipe wrench works on the outer blades but no room on the center. I slip a pipe over one end of the blade to hold the center one.

I've never seen it fail, the way to loosen bolts in a case like yours is pull in the direction the blade turns. Think about it, if it was the other way the bolts would loosen under load.

An impack wrench works well on mower blade nuts. I marked them as LH in my manual so next time I will not get them so tight they are extra hard to get off. Wish some one would have told me about nuts losen in the direction that the blade truns. Some times we act without thinking. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks Guys! I had the feeling they were left hand threads. I stopped working on it Saturday afternoon when a freind came over with a case of suds to play with my garden tractor pulling sled (he got a new puller put together over the Winter). Was going to try again, but I've learned by experince not to touch anything when a case of suds is gone Thanks for the website.
