Rollback Trucks under CDL

I have been looking at used rollback trucks under CDL , does any won have a rollback that can give me some advice. I would be haling tractors around to shows and picking new tractors up that don"t run.

never had one, thought about it, figured out, should be a low profile for the tilt to winch up tractors cars etc. as where a regular flat bed trailer [regardless of type] with ramps won't be at a dangerous angle, can bolt on winch to pull stuff onto. not even thinking about what the insurance would cost, plating it, repairs down the road. [pun intended also] lol

Make sure you get a big enough truck for the tractors you want to haul.

There are rollbacks on glorified pickup truck chassis, and there are rollbacks on Class 8 tandem-axle chassis, and there are all sorts in between.

From my research, the biggest capacity you can expect under 26000lbs GVWR is about a 7.5 ton. That's from Jerr-Dan's website.

I don't know what state you are in but in NY you can operate a tow truck with combined weight of under 28,000 with a tow operators licence.

It is much less of a deal than a CDL. If the rig has air brakes you must get that endorsement.

liability for my rig is about 1700 yr with no on-hook.

I am in Ohio, the tractor that I have that weights the most is 5,100, I have been doing research on the rollbacks too. Thanks

just to clarify, a roll back is a lot different than a dump bed with ramps, a roll back like I would figure he is talking about will put the bed to the ground with a slight angle of pull,,

just a thought, I dont think you could do it effectively and safely very long with just a dump bed and ramps, not saying it cant be done or hasnt been don, but not professionally,,

My 97 International 4700 with a 22 foot steel JerrDan can haul around 5 tons legal It is 25,200 gvw. Most rollbacks with 19.5 tires can't make any more than that because of tire capacity. If you get an aluminum bed instead of steel your load capacity is better.
