linseed oil application oon wood deck

We use to apply Linseed oil to the wood floor on the grain truck. We did it on a warm mild day. Pour it out of the container and work it into the wood with paint
rollers with long handle so we didn't have to be on or knees or bent over. It would take five or six gallons to get the floor soaked up.

I was going to put some oil on the floor of my car trailer last spring. After checking the price and condition of the floor I decided to save the money for a new
floor. It was over $30 per gallon.

(quoted from post at 19:04:30 01/25/23) I have always put used motor oil on them on a hot summer day. What is the advantage of using linseed oil?

I did a side to side comparison between used motor oil and linseed oil a few years ago. The linseed oil lasted way way longer. You certainly want to apply it on a hot sunny day because it will penetrate a lot better.

for years we always applied 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil/turpentine time to boat decks---lasted pretty good and wasn't slippery after it dried

Apply and let it soak in for an hour or so then wipe off the excess, or it'll form a sticky coat. A few coats on a warm/hot day or consecutive days would probably be best.
I do my tool handles morning and night for a week. Old rule of thumb I read somewhere is: once a day for a week, once a week for month, then once a month for a year. Once
or twice a day for a week is more than hard enough for me. Lasts for a long time on my tool handles. The outdoor cedar furniture at my dad's company used to last well for a
few years with just two coats of 50/50 linseed oil/turpentine before it left the factory.

I used the 50/50 turpentine linseed oil recipe yesterday and I am pleased with the results to this point. Thanks for all your recommendations. CM
