moving haybine

need to transport a john deere 1219 haybine, question is will it fit on a 8 foot trailer ? anyone know what the tire width is ?

like we hauled it home. But our trailer is
102 maybe just half a tire on. But I'll
measure if you have time. But I'm going to
a tractor pull in the morning and I'm not
loaded yet. So will be late.

Just hitch it up and pull it. Once loaded it becomes an oversize load with need for permits and all that. I would just tow it with the pickup. The tires will not set on the trailer I don't believe since they are close to the same width of the knife on the outside of the tires. You could load it side ways and remove the tongue and it will still be an oversize load. Now there are a few states that will let you haul it without permits. WI if you stay off the interstate and not over 10 feet wide and farm equipment you can haul it without a permit. In IL if it is not over 14 wide and has a wheel base is farm equipment and not over 13'6 high then no permit needed just sign and flag for both states. This will be legal and keep you out of trouble. If a cop stops you in WI have them contact the permit office and ask. That is where I got the information on the permit or not for there. IL will already know this unless you get a new rookie. I got into the permit deal at the farmers yard with a dot cop about the width and permit deal and he called all over the state to find out I was right. This was from the people that used to order my permits for me. Transport Permits in Des Moines IA DO NOT use the office in Waterloo. I got bad permits for MI from that office there one time. MI will just issue the permit without any check for bridge clearance. The Des Moines office will farm over height permits out to Jack's permits and then you will be gospel for travel with his permit and route. I never had a problem with Jack's doing the permit for MI he has all the old bridege clearances and people giving him changes in the bridges all the time. Like the 13'6 bridge in Kalamazoo was replaced with a 14plus or 15 foot bridge about 10 years or more ago. You can travel 14 foot from Imlay city to the MI line without a problem on I-69to I-94 to the line or down I-69 to the line. DON'T try it on US-23 there is a 13'9 to clear.

I hauled one from southern Kentucky to S.E. Ohio. The seller loaded it for me and we took the tongue off
after it was loaded from the side. Basically 1 big bolt that holds the tongue on a New Holland haybine.
Nothing stuck off the trailer and it hauled very good. Got it home, pulled the trailer one side into a
ditch, put the tongue back on, laid a couple double oak 2x10s up on the trailer (about an 18 height and
hooked it to the tractor and pulled it off. So if you can get the seller to put it on the trailer long ways
you can pull it no problem.

I have pulled mowers long distance two times. One time was interstate. I just called the state and got a permit. They gave me a route to follow, which was mostly interstate highway. No, farm machinery is not allowed on interstates here, but with a permit and maintaining adequate speed it is legal and it is how the DOT wants it done.

When I bought my 10 foot cut, I hooked it to the pickup and pulled it home.

finished mowing Orchard grass. Measured
outside of 1219 tires. 98 my trailer is
.102 I remember now we just backed it on
tied it down and come home. Just stickers
over about a ft. Or less on left side.
But about 3ft on right side. But if don't
like that. I think could be spun around on
trailer, with a good loader man, and a
couple of chocks. Tongue comes off easy
with a 9/16 wrench. Probably out of the
notion now. I like the 1219 JD
conditioner. Run ours with a 50 hp.
Compact tractor. But 4mph is as fast as
cam go and do a good job.
