Gooseneck landing leg

My friends trailer has a landing leg that is backwards in that the pad release is on the opposite side and a PITA to work with. Never paid much attention to how these work. Can it be cut off and turned 180 degrees?

What I read was that dual set ups should have a front pin. The guy that built the trailer used what he had or what was available. I can weld an extension on that handle and bring it across the front so its easier to reach from the right hand side. New jack is 250 bucks so I think well suffer along.

You may be able to take it apart and turn the leg with the pin on it and reassemble it in the orientation you need. See if the manufacturer has repair info and parts.

Leave what is there, just remove the pin and use the hole as a guide to drill through the outside of the jack. Then you can move the spring box, build a new one,or just use a long hitch pin and a hair pin.

You can buy replacement screw and gear for most jacks so they do come apart.
If you start taking it apart you will find it is nothing more than a threaded shaft with a gear on the top.

I would assume that after you remove the top gear you can slide the leg out the bottom, turn it 180 to get the handle where you want it and reinstall it.

That is sounding like the best idea. Im hauling a tractor tomorrow so when Im done I can take a closer look. Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

Pull the top cover off and take a look. If you remove the jack and turn it 180*, you'd need to move the bevel gear on the horizontal shaft to the other side. Chances are that the gear is pinned to the shaft. You may have to reverse the shaft as well if there isn't a hole on the other side.

On the front of the driver's side jack weld a small pipe (think nipple). Run a rod through the nipple to the passenger side jack and weld it to the handle. On the driver's side bend a handle on the extended rod and can pull both at the same time or release one at a time. Easy and inexpensive.

My trailer is also to the front can you buy an electric motor to crank those jacks up and done that hooks to the shaft where the handle is ?

Maybe. You would need to ID brand and capacity of your landing gear. Then talk to a place like etrailer that sells electric landing gear to see if there is a kit available for your landing gear. You can do a web search for "add on electric motor for trailer landing gear" or such and see what you find. Any I have seen, the electric drive is matched to a given landing gear.
