I have E/H brakes on our 14K gooseneck, they are much more powerful than electric brakes. There are a couple of things to consider;
1) The pump draws a lot of current (40 amps max on mine), that is more than the hot lead on my truck will provide, therefore I use the winch battery as the power supply for the brake pump.
2) Mine have a delay of a second or so, I have not been able to eliminate the delay, I do not know if all E/H trailers have this problem.

I have two gooseneck trailers with E/H disc brakes. One is a flatbed, and the other is a 16 foot grain trailer. There is a slight delay but they are strong brakes. I have hauled 10 ton loads and feel good about stopping quick if needed. The tow vehicle is an heavy 3/4 ton pickup and need good trailer brakes with those loads. Steve
