hauling tractors

I have been in the machinery moving business for several years . I always have to grin when people ask what it will cost to move a piece of equipment from point (A) to point (B). There can be a lot of things to consider when asking these things. Make, Model, Dimensions, Weight. First with the make and model most good transporters can tell if it will be a legal size load or not also the weight. If they can't or are not familiar with that particular piece of equipment they will need the height, to the tallest part and an accurate measurement not it looks like or I would guess. Measure it, width To the widest point, on tractors it will be the axle shafts. Duals will have to come off if they make it over width. It is considered a divisible load with them on in most cases. The weight in case it is heavy enough to have to permit it for the over weight. These things will make you move much easier and smooth for you and the person you are looking to have move it for you. Don't put up front money for anything if they require that run don't walk from that person or company, it is a scam.
I always hauled getting the permits and delivery, with no up front money and collected upon delivery. This is how I operated for year with few problems. And yes the maximum legal width is 102inches or 8 feet 6 inches. There is no set legal height persay since each state has some difference in the maximum height. Most likely east of the Mississippi is 13feet 6 inches high most of the states west of the river are 14foot except for MN,OK NE is 14feet 6 inches. Pilot cars for over width or over height and running a high pole will add to the cost. Almost as much as the freight is.

Barnyard I have run across that in the past too.
I posted this mostly to be an informative thing for the novice wanting hauling done with little to no experience of what, when, or how to go about it. I was amazed at times with the lack of knowledge about measurements. With not looking at the axles like they would be left behind and catch up with the tractor when it got there. They had to almost bump into them walking around it.

Oh yea. I went to a sale one time for my brother to try and buy a 89 Ford F 250 4x4 , the auction was a long way from home to start with . I knew the auctioneer vary well as i not only did repair work for him but also combined all his corn . Like all his auctions they are large and i had to park over a mile from the sale. This was back in 91 . My brother told me how far to go on the truck and when it came up i did get the first four bids in on it and dropped out and stood back with my mouth open at what people were bidding on a used pick up as at the time i could go to West Gate Ford and buy a brand new one for less . Anyway i trtied to buy severall items to try and recoup something out of this waisted day and end up with two hod dogs and pepsi . I could not leave till some of the crowd left as i could see way down over the hill that i was boxed in . as i was standing theree this clown comes up to me and said that the auctioneer told him that i haul tractors and was reasonable and he asked how much to haul a TW 25 with duals to West Salem Ohio , first off we are way south of Marietta and i would haul it for a buck seventyfive a loaded mile and this guy goes ballistic on me and tells me he will not pay that price as i was robben him and goes storming off then comes back a little later and says i give you a 150 buck since it is on your way home anyway . And i tell him ah no it is NOT on my way home and is WAY west of where i live and off he goes again . Next thing i know the auctioneer comes up to me and asked what i said to this guy as he was mad and sayen he is not going to pay for the tractor because the whole sale was a rip off . And i told Rusty just what went down and i was NOT hauling it for a 150 bucks the price was one U S dollar and 75 cents a loaded mile and he had to pull the duals or i would charge normal road call service rate and also hourly rate and i get from Rusty hey that is more then reasonable screw him he still bought the tractor and will pay for it . I look down over the hill and see that now i can leave but will have to back out over a mile so i start to walk out the lane and here comes this idiot once again and now offers me 200 bucks and i told him Nope i am not paying to haul your tractor and i get well i'll just drive it on home then and i said good luck with that and finding back roads to get you to West Salem and walked , Then Rusty caught up to me and said hye i got HUNG with several pieces hows about loading them and taking them back to your shop and i'll make wright with ya. So i loaded up his prises and went to the house.
