Trailer brakes

Seems this subject came up on here a while back, but I don't remember the discussion, Sorry , so here goes again. My son has a 2004 super duty. I have both an 02 and a 16. We have several trailers we pull. The trailer brakes work on both of my trucks on all the trailers. My son's truck has brakes that work on all but one. The controller shows current to the brakes as it normally should but no brakes. Any ideas why? Trailer in question is a 14k gvwr tongue hitch.

I would try a ground wire from the battery(-) to the trailer axle,a real pain, but it will confirm or eliminate a ground problem fast.

I would first check contacts on truck and trailer connectors they do get corroded or dirty. Especially if both trailers brakes work on another truck.
