Trailer axle replacement options

I am in the process of fixing up a 1983 20 foot International gooseneck deck over trailer. I have
sandblasted and painted it and have new LED lights for it. I was going to put new bearings brakes and drums
on it, but have found I can replace the whole axle for about the same money. I am looking at Lippert and
Dexter 7k axles. The Lipperts are much less money. Anyone have any experience or advice on which would be
better?

Dexter has the reputation as being the best ones built. Make sure you measure it spring center to center and backing plate to backing plate.

Over on the RV forum I frequent, Lippert frames do not have a good reputation. I don't know if that translates into their axle products... Though I think we just put a Lippert axle on the cattle trailer, so we will see how that holds up.

You sure you are getting the brakes, drums, and bearings with the axle? Just bought a Dexter 8000 lb one and it came as a bare axle.

I just picked up some trailer parts. NOT Dexter. The name will be with held to protect to guilty. Chinese parts showed up with barely greased bearing races already starting to rust and pit. Not a problem for me in particular, I plan to get this trailer on the road for about a year and then replace axles with 12K rockwells, I believe, (bring money) and yard these undersized axles things out. THEN I can use the trailer as it was designed and not worry about it.
Go cheap and cry unless you have future plans for an upgrade.
