Angle steel for beavertail decking on a skidsteer trailer

The larger trailers have angle steel laid corner up for decking on the beavertail. Seems like great traction for climbing up on to the trailer.

I'm redecking a small 6x10 with 2' beavertail skidsteer trailer and want to do the same. It doesn't need 1/4" thick angles like the big trailers though. Don't need the weight or the expense.

1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1/8" thick angles, every 3", would be the equivalent of a 1/8" plate steel floor, only stronger. 1/8" is what my dump trailer has and it's rated to haul a skidsteer. Maybe I could even space them a bit farther apart.

Some sort of expanded metal would be a lot nicer. You get good traction on it and can even walk up and down it nice.

Those are generally called "self cleaning" ramps or beavertails. The ones on my 30 ft. gooseneck 1/8 thick 2" 6 inches apart. I think that you could go more than three inches. The skid steer tires being smaller than a tractor concentrate the weight more, but they don't get much extra weight hung on them.

(quoted from post at 07:10:22 10/24/19) had two with expanded metal on beavertail never had issues, have since been sold since trying to retire here

Were you hauling a skid steer?
