Maine to Mass Hwy Trip- A SUCCESS

Just returned from that trip to Mass to pick up my new vintage "Lord" loader (11 1/2 ft long, 1000 lbs). Ended up going with a friend who had a Heavy Duty Pickup, with a 12 foot dual axle trailer. 220 miles each way. Destroyed one tire with tread separation on way down, (dry tire). Lucky to get to an exit within a mile, a used car dealer right at the exist let us use his lug wrench. We brought a spare, but no wrench. Made the trip in 5 hours. Absolutely fantastic retired couple in Mass, helped with the loading with extra equipment, he gave me a ROP device for free, and they made us lunch. I love the people I meet in tractor restoration!! Uneventful trip back, but 6 hours back due to Rt 95 traffic South West of Boston. I did use two chains with binders, one safety chain and one strap. No tarp. No problems with police even tho we passed several speed traps. I would take that trip again with no problem, which actually is a problem, because before this trip I was only buying vintage ford tractors available in Maine within 100 miles, and now my hunting territory has expanded significantly. Thanks again to all who gave me the confidence to make the trip. Larry.

Congratulations Larry! I often comment that YT is the worst place to come to for anything to do with hauling because the YTDOT makes everything out to be a lot more complicated and worse than it really is.

If you take notice: there are numerous
pickup trucks pulling trailers on the
road these days
If under 26k, equipment looks well
maintained, load is secure, and not
driving like a maniac, it is not likely
that you will have any problems with
vehicle enforcement. Just be careful
and enjoy the ride.
